I grew up watching Classics

People might call me old, but I love listening to oldies songs. I grew up watching a variety of classic movies, musicals, and I love to sing-along together with the casts. Those movies are immensely popular during the old days and still are ( I guess).

First of all, my ALL TIME favourite classic:
MARY POPPINS (1964)
I ADORE MARY POPPINS!:D
Mary, Bert, Michael and Jane. :)

Mary Poppins, played by Julie Andrews (Queen Clarisse from The Princess Diaries)

The movie has a lot of memorable quotes and the songs, musics, dances, are awesome. My favourite saying would be
'SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIUS!' Try saying it in one go! :P

 The Sound of Music (1965)

Maria is portrayed by Julie Andrews too!
Captain Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer) is hot! singing 'Edelweiss' with his children.
The Von Trapp children.

This one's my favourite too. As usual, this movie has a variety of AWESOME songs.

And to tell you this, the Korean Drama 'You're Beautiful' uses some ideas from this movie.
Maria is a wannabe nun. Go Mi Nam (I forgot her real lady name) is a wannabe nun.
Maria is uncertain whether this is the path she should really take. The same goes with Go Mi Nam.
Maria has a Mother Superior who always supports her. Go Mi Nam too.
Maria went out from the church. Go Mi Nam, like duh!
Maria has a beautiful voice. Go Mi Nam -Like duh duh duh!
Okay, that's all. Can't afford to list more. -____- You'll understand what am I talking about if you watched both the classic movie AND the Korean Drama. :P

 My Fair Lady (1964)
Audrey Hepburn is super 'loverly'! This movie won EIGHT Academy Awards.
It tells the story of Eliza Doolitle, a flower girl who turned into a lady by Professor Henry Higgins. Well, sort of. Julie Andrews was supposed to play the part of Eliza Doolittle but the director (?) picked Audrey Hepburn to play the part instead. Rex Harrisson wasn't really happy initially. O___O
Higgins and Doolittle.

The King and I (1956)
a 1956 movie starring Deborah Kerr as Anna Leonowens and Yul Brynner as King Mongkut.
King Mongkut and Anna Leonowens. An odd couple. :P
King Mongkut Yul Brynner is effin funny! I cracked each time I see his face and heard him saying his most favourite word in the film- ETCETERA, ETCETERA, ETCETERA. :D
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)
Stars Dick van Dyke who played Bert in Mary Poppins.
I don't remember much about the storyline. But I can recall that there is a widowed inventor who live with his children. He invented a car that could fly and off they went to a faraway land. Sounds interesting, huh? Of course, ROALD DAHL co-write the story! :D

Bedknobs and Broomsticks(1971)
David Tomlinson who played George Banks in Mary Poppins starred as Emelius Browne in this movie.
They ventured into the world of animations-literally. It's quite similar to Mary Poppins. About the storyline, I do remember that the woman is a witch next door, Emilius Browne is a widowed father with three kids. They had an adventure, traveling on the bed.Err, well, correct me if I'm wrong.

The Wizard of Oz (1939)
I'm sure you guys are familiar with this story.

Dorothy, Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, Tin Man

Gone With The Wind (1939)
It tells the story of a vain, spoiled and beautiful woman named Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh) who is very popular with the guys. But the one she truly loves is Ashley (yeah, a guy) who unfortunately, loves another woman and is engaged to marry that woman. Scarlett then married Rhett Butler (Clark Gable). In the book, it is stated that Scarlett married a couple of times before getting married to Rhett Butler. The setting is in the midst of World War 1.
This movie has a rather tragic ending. No happy ending. Thanks to the selfish Scarlett who finally realised that the one she truly loves is Rhett Butler. But then, it's too late already, huh!
Margaret Mitchell refused to write a sequel. I don't know why. But Alexandra Ripley had been assigned by the Mitchell estate to write 'Scarlett', the sequel to Gone with the Wind. I've read the book when I was in secondary school and it has happy ending, like finally!

Scarlett O'Hara in front of the antebellum house in Tara.

I remember that TV3 used to broadcast these wonderful classics during school holidays in the 'Alam Ria Cuti Sekolah' segment in the 90's. Disney did, too.

That is, before DISNEY CHANNEL ORIGINAL MOVIES like High School Musical, Wizards of Waverly Place, Hannah Montana the movie, Camp Rock, etcetera, etcetera(I'm imagining Yul Brynner's face as I said this, LOL) become popular.

Ah well, I still choose Mary Poppins over the overrated teenage love story of High School Musical.
:D

First movie is excluded. The sequels are getting more and more overrated and annoying (to me, at least).
I like this scene! :D

Alamak, what am I doing? I'm supposed to write about classics, not to start all over on the reviews of the High School Musical trilogy!
I shall digress now.
Or maybe I should stop.
:D

But before that,my most favourite Disney modern movie.

Most probably  it's because Julie Andrews is in it.:D
END.

@Luqman,
They're AWESOME! Both the Bedknobs and Mary Poppins! :D
TV3 should really show those movies again. But then maybe the kids/teens would say

'What the heck is this?',
'Boring!'
'I want Zac Efron, where's Zac Efron?!!'

LOL.
