Turning 20

First of all, my heartiest thanks to those who wished me for my birthday. Thank you for actually spending 10 cents to send text message to me, thank you for actually spending a minute or two of your precious time just to post a 'Birthday Wish' on my facebook wall. Thank you all! I will not delete you guys from facebook. Hahahah. :P

I wrote this on the 14th of October. Intended to post this on the day itself but ahha, unluckily and unfortunately, the internet connection sucks! Biasalah, internet free. :P

So, here it goes.

Yesterday is the 13th of October. The day before yesterday is the 12th of October. The day before yesterday is my uncle’s 35th birthday and yesterday is my cousin’s 19th birthday and another cousin’s 10h birthday. Days before that, on 8th of October, is one of my good friends’ birthday and the day before…Ok, stop!

Today is the 14th of October 2010. Which marks my birthday, which also sadly marks that it has been six months that my late grandmother left us to meet her Creator on the 14th of April 2010. Al-Fatihah to her.

In a few minutes, at around 10 pm, my age will officially be 20. Yes, the big TWO-oh. No more the word ‘teen’ in my age. I’m an ADULT!

It means, the Earth did 20 complete rotations since the year I was born, which is in 1990.

I would like to attribute my existence in this world for 20 years to Allah and my parents. Without them, I will never be able to live for 20 years on this Earth.

For twenty years, my heart has been beating continuously without rest, and for twenty years, I have been living on Allah’s earth and breathing the air that He provides me.

Twenty years ago, Allah has created me, decided that I am worthy enough to live on Earth and faces his tests and challenges, thus blowing His soul into me and sent me to live on this Earth. I was born as a healthy, normal baby. Allah the most gracious and merciful has placed me to be in a warm, compassionate family with loving parents. What’s more, I was born to Muslim parents. Alhamdulillah.

My parents doted on me, providing me with emotional and financial support. I never had to experience hunger and poverty as some unfortunate people do. As soon as I was brought into this world, my parents took care of me and Allah watches me, his creation, tenderly and lovingly as I grow up until now.

It’s like the scenario of a mother who has given her child to be taken care by childless parents. Sometimes, she would watch from afar as her child grows up.

>Of course, truly, we come from Allah. That is why; a child is an amanah from Allah to the parents. If the parents abuse their children, Allah will take back the children from them. Allah loves us, His creations; surely he wouldn’t want to see us being mistreated.

Alhamdulillah, my parents love me very much and I love them too.

For twenty years, I have been committing sins, by not adhering to some of His rules and yet He still loves me, still permitting the oxygen to diffuse into my lungs, still allowing my heart to beat, and still giving me good health.

What’s more, He even bestows me with so many goodness and blessings that is in fact, uncountable. I couldn’t list all of them all. It is impossible. Allah has given me wonderful lots of birthday gifts each year.

Alhamdulillah, thank you Allah.

I survived in this temporary world for twenty years because He guides me and blesses me with love and care.

I survived a day of sadness and depression because I know He will give me a day of happiness and elation on the next day.

I survived because of him. I live because of him. I was created by Him.

I will try my best to please you in everything that I do. Please forgive me for all my sins. Thank you Allah.

And as for my parents, thank you for taking really good care of me all this while. To my mother, I’m really sorry that you have to bear immense pain to bring me out to this world. I’ll try my best to make you and dad happy for the rest of your life.

Mom, thank you for taking care of yourself during your pregnancy so that I will come out of the womb normal and healthy.

Dad, thank you for getting a financially stable job and thus providing me a roof over my head and for buying all the things that I want.

Thank you for giving me food to eat, to never ever let me starve even for once. Thank you for bringing me up well. Thank you for teaching me how to talk, read, write. Now I couldn’t stop doing those three things *laugh*.

Thank you for providing me with education, for sending me to school, for all the money and efforts that you have spent on me.

I am really really immensely sorry that I might have hurt your feelings, especially during the rebellious early teenage years. It’s not me, it’s the hormones. *laugh again*.

I’m sorry for giving you troubles throughout twenty years spent in this world.

Thanks for giving me support all these while. For support and care are the two things that all children would want from their parents. And you have given me that.

I do not wish for any presents, for you and my siblings are my birthday presents each year. The wonderful gifts from Allah Himself!

Thank you for taking care of me for twenty years. And please continue to take care of me. Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu!

Thank you for giving me siblings who become my first best friends and buddies. Thank you. I don’t want to be the only child in the family.

There are impossibly so much things, list of thanks to be written here. For you two have done so much good to me and I’m eternally grateful.

The transition states from childhood to adulthood had been excruciatingly painful, emotionally and physically. It is hard, difficult and yet, wonderful at the same time. It’s because I have Allah, family, friends and teachers who helped me along the way.

Ten years ago, I was ten. Surely the 10 years old Sarah back then is really different from the Sarah 10 years later.

I’ve developed physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually over the twenty years.

For each passing years, for each passing moment, I’ll try and hope and pray to become a better person than I am before. Insya-Allah.

Again, thank you Allah. Thank you for always being there for me.

The clock strikes 12. Happy 20th Birthday, Sarah!

There's a little imp in my room!!

Well, I don't know whether it's a little imp or an adult imp, but a 'little imp' sounds cuter and less scary, so there!

Imps were often portrayed as lonely little creatures always in search of human attention. They often used jokes and pranks as a means of attracting human friendship, which often backfired when people became tired or annoyed of the imp's endeavors, usually driving it away. (Wikipedia, n.d.)

Apakah ini Sarah? Is this one of the many adverse effects of watching too much Japanese dramas (thus contributing to the derangement of my mind? Because most Japanese Dramas are irrelevant, illogical yet fun to be watched at the same time XD, err, ada kaitan ke dengan imp) or is this the long term side effect of taking too much diphenydramine expectorant (cough syrup, ceh, nk jugak guna generic name dah nama pun belajar jadi pharmacist, kan?) thus causing hallucination of the mind? Oh yeah, FYI I was sick for one whole week and was absent from classes for two days (with one day M.C but the next day I ponteng because I wasn't feeling well) thus the doctor gave me tooooo  much medicine and I was forced to finish them all. Ok, done!

Anyway, I digress. About this imp. Yes, I'm not joking, okay. In fact, this imp is the main reason of why I got high fever in the first place. Okay, where to start?
This story is really unbelievable. You might just laugh at me if I decided to expose the whole matter here, publicly. But, really, the IMP is REAL!

Eh, whaddya know, look at the time. Almost 7 p.m Gotta go shower and study for Physical Pharmacy quiz tomorrow. Muahahahahaha.

To not be continued.....Well, it depends on my mood. To say it again, the IMP is REAL!

Hey, alas, I've updated this blog! *throws confetti*
P.S. Out of the four compartments in my room, mine is the only one whose window faces the dense jungle/hill behind. Erkkk. Go figure. And I have a slight suspicion about something that's lurking under my bed at night. SCARY!!! O___o

Babbles

 Books
Sympathetic neurotransmitters are released whenever I entered a bookshop
I need money to buy all the books that I want so JPA please give me money as soon as possible.
One day, I WILL open a bookshop. Or a library. Whatever with books in it.
English books are so expensive as they are imported from overseas. So, someone in Malaysia, please do collaborations whatsoever with those publishing companies overseas so that you can attain the rights to print their books here in MALAYSIA. Not everyone is rich to buy RM30+ books every week! Hmmphh!!!

J-Pop

Seriously. I have no mood to watch any Japanese dramas. Like, SERIOUSLY
Seriously, I don't have the same jittery, excited feeling whenever I watched Matsumoto Jun or Arashi shows
Seriously, I haven't played a single Arashi song on my laptop for more than two months.
Seriously, I think my addiction towards Japanese Dramas, Arashi and Matsumoto Jun is slowly diminishing and deteriorating. Alhamdulillah.

Hari Raya

I celebrated my Hari Raya overseas, just like what I did for the past 20 years. Overseas: Singapore.
My UNGS lecturer said Singapore has the most organized Muslim community in the world. I couldn't agree more. Yeah!
My mum was a Singaporean. She is now a Malaysian.
Though I'm 20 this year, I received a considerable, satisfactory amount of duit raya from my generous aunts, uncles and relatives there. What's more, they are in SINGAPOREAN DOLLARS.

KILL! KILL!

I killed a cockroach today, using the effective cockroach spray from shieldtox.

CLEO
I love CLEO Magazine. It is the MOST interesting magazine in the whole world. Oh boy, I sounded too girlish and bimbo when I wrote this sentence

HORROR or GHOST STORIES or MOVIES
I love watching Horror movies. But some horror movies are too unrealistic that I ended up laughing at the ghosts rather than to be scared of them.

HARUN YAHYA
I downloaded 20 books of his from www.harunyahya.com.

DUNIA BARU
I love Dunia Baru 1, 2, 3 and Dunia Baru the Movie. I'm watching Dunia Baru Reunion on youtube now.

THE END.

P.S. You should very well know that the writer is suffering from writer's block and she doesn't have any good ideas to write or blog about. She is still recovering from car lag (jet lag) due to the long journeys from East to West then to North, then to South then to North again. And now she's off to watch 'Beranak Dalam Kubur' in Astro Prima. She will tell you whether that horror movie is eye-gawking or sleepy-yawning. She invented the terms herself. To think again, the title of the movie itself is absurd.

4th Week- A Summary

Okay, sekarang ni dah nak masuk 7th week dah. Baru nak post 4th week punya summary.Tapi tulis lama dah sebenarnya. Blame the internet. *rolled eyes*

This post was written at the end of the fourth week

This post and the previous ones are really really plain, simple, bland, without any pictures. Blame the siput sedut wireless connection.

So, 4th week now. Let's recap.

So what did I actually do there? Studying? Err, right. Whatever. Dr. Maryanto's lab report, UNGS term paper, studying for the upcoming Physiology and Anatomy quiz next week!

Memorizing verse 22-28 of Surah al-Israk. Memorizing 2 hadiths (Hadith no 1 and 12).
Ifthar (breaking fast) with 2nd year Pharmacy seniors at Musolla Talhah 3. They cooked Koay Teow Goreng Kantonis. Yup, they cooked! They brought rice cooker and all those ingredients. Awesomeness.

Walking to and fro from Kulliyyah of Pharmacy to Mahallah Maimunah as the bus (RJ Liner) is nowhere to be seen. -_____-. Walking under the hot scorching sun is not pleasant of course, but somehow, we can endure it.

At 8 p.m on Wednesday, walked to Kulliyyah of Pharmacy to watch the Demonstrasi Debat Bahasa Melayu. All UIA Kuantan students who are taking Bahasa Melayu this semester are compulsory to attend the debat. The topic 'Pelajar UIA: Indah Khabar dari Rupa'. LOL.

Finished reading 'The Rice Mother' by Rani Manicka. The novel won 2003 Commonwealth Prize Award. The story about a 14 years old Ceylonese girl shipped from India to Kuantan, Pahang, Malaysia. Yeah, Kuantan! Haha. She married a 37 year old man, live in Malaysia, gave birth to 6 children every year. Endured the horrific events of Japanese Occupation, which claimed the life of her precious daughter, bla-bla.
The story is so beautifully written and it gives a tremendous depressing impact on me.I got depressed after reading the first chapter. See?? Everyone should read this book. Maybe I will buy a copy. Ermm. JPA? Bila nak datang?

Gonna borrow more books (fictions) from the library next week. Some Roald Dahl's books that I haven't read, some good old classics- Good Wives, Anna Karenina, etc.

Fictions made up my life. Life here is quite dull, with all those studying that need to be done, with all those assignments that need to be finished, with all those complicated formats of lab reports that need to be completed, with all those continuous, rigid, process of waking up, go to KOP, go back to Mahallah, study, sleep. Wake up, go KOP, Mahallah, study, sleep. The same events over and over again. DULL, RIGHT???

The good way to treat this spirit of mine that needs adventures, entertainments and all is to read books. FICTIONS! By reading books, you can imagine, you can be at other places, your mind will be absorbed with the whole story, as if you are really there, witnessing everything. And you could choose whether to speed read or to slowly enjoy and devour the entire story, compared to watching series and movies, where you have to wait, wait and wait. Like, when will this guy finished his dialogue? When will the murderer be found or what? Somehow, it's kind of wasting your time. Watching movies when you're supposed to be studying is one of the many forms of guilty pleasures. But you'll feel guilty, lah. And you can bring your book anywhere. You can read it anywhere, at all times.

Another thing. I will only give some clues. Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Aamir Khan, 3 Idiots, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, My Name is Khan, Dilwale Dulhania le Jayenge, Karan Johar, Vinod Chopra, Dharma Pictures, Lata Mangeshkar, Jatin Lalit, Dil to Pagal Hai, Main Hoon Na, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. Go figure.

I'm too lazy to construct sentences. Guess, guess. 6/8/2010. Solehah. T2 4.5, Secret Recipe cake, candles, snacks and tidbits, Sarah, Syidah, Afzan, Wani,Timah, Tiqah, Farah Ruwaida, Majdiah, Zafirah, 'Aina, Julia, Ain and others. An event.

That's all from me. Chalo beta!

3rd Week - A Summary

Actually, this was written last week. But I couldn't post this due to the super duper sloowwwwwwww wireless connection of IIUM Kuantan. Oh well.

3rd Week Summary

Baru tadi tengah best meluahkan perasaan dalam Bahasa Melayu pasal PakCik Teksi kat Berjaya Megamall Kuantan tapi oh man, internet DISCONNECTED* Takpe-takpe, relax. Tu post mengutuk orang sebenarnya. tapi Allah tak nak bagi saya dapat dosa jadi dia tak bagi saya publish post tu kat public. :)

Anyway, I digress.
Last week, I had to undergo the audition for the emcee/ quiz moderator for the 2nd IIUM National Pharmacy Quiz that will be held after raya.
Besides me, there're many of my other classmates who tried their luck in the audition. Amiirah, Naza, Kak Nisah (she wanted to audition for Arabic Language, actually), Fatin Kamaruzaman and Adibah Mazlan, and three brothers from our class. Total, 9 first year students. Bersemangat, kan?
There were two or three seniors (2nd year students) who went to the audition as well.

Amiirah Rosli. The only English-exempted girl in the Pharmacy Rx9. Band 6 in MUET. Extensive (exaggerating, am I? XD) experiences in emcee-ing. Haha. The moment she opened her mouth, wow, we were awe-strucked. The seniors as well. Ah well, biasalah. Amiirah. :P
Then it was my turn. I began with salam and stated my name. First year. Then I read the text.
'Annoucing, the arrivals of  blablabla'.

The others are really good. So I don't really put high hopes, LOL.

Long story cut short (apa punya English daa) at 12 something a.m this morning (morning, not noon!) I received a message from Kak Hajar

'Salam. Congratulations! You have been selected as emcee/quiz moderator for 2nd IIUM National Pharmacy Quiz. You will be informed later about the training. Thank you :) '

Okay, so I got the job. Either the emcee or the quiz moderator. I don't know. Haha. Never mind. Alhamdulillah.

I wrote my name for the Kelab Debat Bahasa Melayu Kuantan. No English Debate team in Kuantan, so sad, huh? Then the Vice President sent me a message.

'Salam. Anda dijemput ke mass gathering kelab debat bahasa melayu Kuantan pada 2/8 (Isnin) di Musolla KOP. Maklumat lanjut leh rujuk gb group kdbmk. Jumpa di sana. Tq. Wslm.'

Initially, I intended to go to the so called mass gathering. But then I looked at the FB group and the blog of Kelab Debat Bahasa Melayu Kuantan. It seems like, if you decided to really join the club, as the debater, participating in various debate competition that will be held out of campus, you will miss lots of classes. So, no thanks. The lectures and studies are more important. Haha. XD

And I have been chosen/ voted to be the Setiausaha (Secretary) for the Assistant Batch Leader. Not a glamorous post. Tak buat kerja sangat pun.Cuma collect students' biodata. Naza berapa kali suruh update students' biodata tapi tak buat-buat pun. Pemalas punya setiausaha. :P

Studies and lectures went well, I guess. But I don't dare to say much about this. Let's just see how well will I fare in the quizzes. O___o.

What else? Balik raya! Yeah! Balik kampung. Aidil fitri this year will not be the same as the previous Hari Raya. I'm sure you know the reason why. :(

Anyway, UIA Kuantan will provide bus for 'orang-orang utagha' pi balik Ipoh, Butterworth, Sungai Petani, Aloq Staq, Kuala Perlis. Good! No need to go buy ticket from outside bus (err, whatever). So, I will go home to Sungai Petani tercinta (insya-Allah) together with Hanis. :DD. Can't wait!  Alhamdulillah, Allah permudahkan urusan nak beli tiket balik Kedah.

But oh, kesian budak-budak Dentistry. Hazie told me that they will still have a class on the 9th of September. Note: 10th September is the first day of Aidil Fitri. Kesian, kan? Dahlah kulliyyah jauh daripada Mahallah, ikut block system, banyak aktiviti sampai tak sempat nak stadi (dia yang kata), cuti pun tak banyak. Lepas tu bila habis first year, kena halau pergi keluar duduk IM2 (off campus) sekali dengan budak-budak Medic sebab brothers dari IM2 masuk dalam Talhah. Kasihan. Okay, kakak senior yang beritahu. Rumours aje kot.
Alhamdulillah. Tiba-tiba bersyukur dapat course Pharmacy walaupun takla 'se-glamour'course Medic atau Dentistry. Takpe, asalkan happy (err, setakat ni masih happy lagi la kot).

Oh yeah, JPA! Bila nak masuk ni? Kena tahan air liur daripada meleleh bila nampak paperback Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol. And other books. Anna Karenina's complete and unabridged version in leatherbound (so- called) cover for the price of less than RM30??? Cheesecake! I have to remind myself that there are other important things to buy rather than fictions. I haven't even finished reading Terry Pratchett's A Hat Full of Sky' that I borrowed almost two weeks ago!

A series of lab reports, UNGS term paper and BM presentation need to be submitted and presented. Oh well, the life of a student, right?

Preparations for Ramadhan? Aha, I have been ganti-ing my puasa since last week. Padan muka ganti lambat-lambat siapa suruh? Minggu ni habis ganti, insya-Allah. So, unlike the brothers, we the sisters won't face that much problems in suppressing our desire to eat (memang haram makan pada siang hari di Bulan Ramadhan), overcoming intense hunger and insya-Allah we won't feel that tired as compared to them. Dah banyak practise ganti puasa, what?? Okay, jangan riak. Insya-Allah Allah permudahkan perjalanan hidup di Bulan Ramadhan ni.

And alhamdulillah. Dan habis 4 juzuk al-Quran sejak masuk UIA ni. Bacaan pun dah lebih lancar daripada sebelum ni. Best pulak baca al-Quran ni. Alhamdulillah. Berusaha baca sekurang-kurangnya 2 muka surat setiap hari (waktu habis solat fardhu). Okay, teruskan usaha. Fighting!

Bertuah masuk UIA ni sebenarnya.
Kelas Tilawah- Baca Surah Ali-Imran dengan hafal surah dari An-Nas sampai Adh-Dhuha.
Study Circle- Hafal Hadith, Ibadah Camp, Hafal Surah al-Israk dengan al-Hasyr (beberapa potongan ayat).

Call mak almost tiap-tiap hari. Mak selalu pesan solat hajat setiap habis Isyak. Tengah nak menjadikannya satu tabiat yang bagus. Insya-Allah.

OKAA-SAN! I MISS YOU SO MUCH!!! :(((

I shall stop now. Another 2 minutes to 12 a.m. I'm not feeling sleepy yet so I shall study. LOL.

Toodles!

A New World (IIUM Kuantan)

I've been trying to post this entry LOONGGG time ago. Okay, I'm exaggerating. I've been trying to post this entry since last week, ever since I had 'successfully' registered the wireless settings to my laptop. -___-
But oh, it is stated that the connection is EXCELLENT but I couldn't even post one picture here without waiting for about an hour or so ( of which I did not) and then, the wireless is disconnected. CHEESECAKE!

So, how's life here?
I like it very much, thank you. In fact, I prefer being here rather than in CFS PJ. The environment here is so calm, serene, relaxing. The window of my compartment is facing the lush green hill behind and I really like it. When I wake up early in the morning for subuh prayer, I will be shivering from top to toe. I mean, yes, it's really cold! It's like you're in Cameron Highlands or something. As I draw the curtain, I feel all cheered up and refreshed  as I see the towering green trees behind, together with the chirping of the birds and all. I feel so calm and relaxed. :D

I love my room, I love my compartment, the only one whose window faces the hill out of the three other compartments. I have really nice roommates. Two of them are really nice 4th year Dentistry Student, Kak Aliya and Kak Nana. And a really nice 1st year Pharmacy student (same like me), Zimah.
Kak Aliya is extremely nice. Once, she treated us Roti Canai for breakfast and she gave us chocolates and sweets she bought from her trip to U.K. And she lent me her 'Clinical Anatomy' and 'Atlas of Human Anatomy' of which I don't really think I'll be using them that frequently, as they are more suitable for Dentistry and Medicine student. And yeah, she gave me, yes, GAVE ME the Guyton and Hall Textbook of Medical Physiology of which will be my primary source of reference while waiting for the Tortora books. Nice, right? :). She must have been popular because somebody (a senior) pointed to me as 'Kak Aliya's new roommate' to her friend beside then her friend smiled and said 'Oh, really?'

I love my Mahallah. It's more like an apartment, really. We do have to share the toilets and bathrooms but I don't care. It's really nice to experience the REAL life of a university student. There are monkeys too. I managed to capture a picture of them but cannot post it here because??? :P
The 'good' monkeys didn't intrude into my room. Hehe. :D. Good monkeys. :P

I wish I could post all the pictures here but oh well, the internet connection SUCKSSS. But I shouldn't complain. Rather, I should be grateful to have been able to type all these here. Maybe I'll post them all when I get home. Which is, like, 6 more weeks to go. Ahahaha. Yes, I'll only be home for Hari Raya. It feels like I'm studying in overseas or something, LOL.

Pharmacy. Kulliyyah of Pharmacy. I am very very grateful to get a place in this one of the most sought after courses. I love Pharmacy! Pharmacy is my passion! I love all the stuffs that I have learned so far. And the lecturers are awesome! My batch is awesome as well! I will try my best to get the best results. Amin.
My day started as early as 6 a.m when I wake up and get ready for the long hours of classes throughout the day. Then I will get out from my room at 7.30 a.m and walked to the front of the mahallah, waiting for the bus to take us to our respective kulliyyahs. Oh, sometimes I'll just walk there. It's not that far, anyway. ;). The classes will end at around 4 to 5 p.m. It's pretty hectic. But I love it! :D

Oh yeah, Pharmacy reminds me of the subject 'Potion' in Harry Potter. We are required to make creams, ointments, elixirs, syrups and all those drug related stuffs. Drug dealer in the making, huh? :P

The best thing is that we can use the creams and the ointments that we have made! Ginger cream or Vitamin E cream, anyone? :P

What else? Oh yeah, I've decided that I will be a bit active here. Life is not all about studying. I don't want to be a NERD! So, the first step is that I have applied to become an M.C for the Pharmacy National Quiz that will be held in IIUM after Hari Raya. There's the audition that I have to go through. I hope I can get the job. The M.C or the quiz moderator. And I'm thinking of applying to the iPhA (IIUM Pharmacy Students Association) magazine as someone in the editorial board. Well, see first. My mum encourages me to participate in all these as she too was active during her university years. The same goes with my dad.

All right. What else? I wanted to tell everything! There's no TV here. Yup, I didn't watch the semi final and final match of the World Cup. Sad, huh? And no, I didn't cry when Germany lost. I'm matured, man! I'm no longer the 16 years old Sarah who cried in the bus and in the class when Germany lost against Italy in World Cup 2006. Haha. In fact, I have more things in my mind rather that to be worried or to actually care about the football world.

The cafe is situated quite far from my Mahallah but never mind, I'm okay with that. I must not complain!
Sad to say, due to the immense amount of assignments, lab reports and studying to be done, I haven't been out for outings during this 3 weeks duration of staying here. Never mind, it's only the first year here. I WILL explore the whole of Kuantan throughout my four years here.

But I hate the library of UIA Kuantan. Indera Mahkota library. I freaking hate it when most of the books that I wanted  are in the PJ library and the Gombak main library. What the eff??? I couldn't do my research la like this! And the library is smaller than the library we have in PJ. Come on, this is supposed to be the MAIN CAMP library! Pfttt!!!

Oh yeah, the subjects that I'll be taking this semester. I'm supposed to post the print-screen picture here but err, well,, you know, internet connection. oh well..

Study Circle
Bahasa Melayu Lanjutan (YEAH, OMG!)
Islamic Input in Pharmacy
Fundamentals of Physiology
Basic Anatomy and Histology
Introduction to Pharmacy Practice
Physical Pharmacy 1
Islamic Worldview
Tilawah Al-Quran 2

Nah, ambik! 9 subjects! 4 core courses and 5 university required subjects. Total credit hours, 19.5!
And I have a Chinese teacher teaching Bahasa Melayu! I'm elated, seriously! The last time I have had a Chinese person teaching me in some subjects was in my secondary school! I really missed being taught by Chinese teachers. We do have two lecturers from Africa  (Dr.Abu Bakar-Anatomy and Dr.Ibrahim Shogar-UNGS), one lecturer from Bangladesh/India (I supposed, Dr.Mokhlesur-Islamic Input) and one Indonesian lecturer, Dr.Maryanto who's teaching us Physical Pharmacy.

So far, I'm doing okay with the subjects listed above. But I do have a little difficulty in understanding some parts of Physical Pharmacy.
I pity Dr.Maryanto. He's trying his best to make us understand the things that he's teaching. But err, the matter is, the auditorium is err... condusive for.., err... sleeping. I do not sleep, of course! It's disrespectful! But being an ordinary helpless human being I am, I couldn't help feeling sleepy. I tried my best to cheer Dr. Maryanto up when he asked

'When Sodium Hydroxide is being put in the solution (ok, I forgot), will the concentration of (I forgot) increase or decrease?'

Seeing no one is taking the effort of answering his question, I answered it ardently, high-spiritedly!

'INCREASE!'  I said. And I smiled. Dr.Maryanto smiled too, seeing that somebody is listening to him. Then he asked
'And why is that?'

My smile faltered and I said ' Errr... because NaOH is a strong base???' okay, sesuka hati menghentam jawapan.
He stopped smiling. Ahahaha. Toot! Wrong answer! Okay, I shall revise Partition Coefficient pronto!

Talking about feelings. I do miss my family. My mum and Haziq, especially but somehow, I feel like I don't really miss home. No feelings of homesickness. Instead,  I feel that I have a huge responsibility here and I should make my parents proud. But I do try to call my mum EVERYDAY. Sometimes, once in two days. And call my dad, Syafiq too, calling me several times a week. I am very blessed. I am very grateful to Allah for giving me such wonderful family members, such wonderful home and all.

I do miss someone. Someone important in my life. Sometimes, as I was sitting quietly, I will think of my late grandma, who recently passed away last April. I will think of my other grandparents. I no longer have any grandparents in this world. Then there will be tears flowing down my cheeks. I feel sad. I feel sad that they have to go so early, without having the chance to see me graduating, getting a job, becoming successful.. But I do know that Allah loves them more. And I will 'sedekah' Al-Fatihah each time I remember them. My eyes are all watery now.

Hazie celebrated her 20th birthday last Saturday. So, yours truly, Wanie, Wan, Soul, Afzan, Atiqah, Timah bought a cake and surprised her in her room! I captured some photos and recorded a video but of course, same reason again.>_____>
And to my beloved younger brother, Danial, Happy 14th birthday, sayang! Semoga sentiasa dirahmati dan diberkati Allah, dilindungi Allah. Amin.

I watched '3 Idiots' a few days before and I got to say that I'm extremely impressed! Everyone should watch '3 Idiots'. It's inspirational. University students should watch it.
I decided to add in various things to my reading and watching list.

Reading list:
Fictions: Terry Pratchett (available in IIUM Kuantan Library, surprisingly), Chetan Bhagat (I have one of his books at home. He's the one who wrote the 3 Idiots book, LOL).
Educational: Harun Yahya. Only one book of his is available in IIUM Kuantan Library. asdsfhfdjza;jf
Academical: Histology, Physiology, Anatomy and friends.

Reading diet: 2 pages of al-Quran every solat (trying my best to make this a habit), a fiction once in two weeks (Terry Pratchett!), an educational book once in two weeks[Harun Yahya (I'll alternate between fictional and educational book)] and ALL academic required books every day. (This can't be helped, of course). XD

Watching list:
I should watch Ahmad Deedat's debate but dunno where to get it. I know about him from Julia and Luqman and I saw his videos in youtube during the holidays. He gave impressive amazing views on the religious issues and issues of the world. Youtube in IIUM Kuantan? Get real!
One movie a week. Currently engrossed in Hindustan movies. LOL.

Outing: Once in a month. Hahahaha.
I'm not a NERD!

To summarize, IIUM Kuantan rawwkkss!!

Babbles

Pheewwww.... I'm so tired! Exhausted! Like, seriously!
Yesterday I was feeling a bit sad and emotional but now, THANKS to the hurried last-minute packing, I only feel tired and NOT emo at all.

There's still some stuffs to do. Going to KL this afternoon. Going to Kuantan tomorrow morning, insya-Allah.
Tired tired tired tired.
Yesterday I went to the clinic and the doctor said I have a slight fever. And I didn't realise it! So she gave me some medicine and I felt extremely sleepy after taking one of the pills. So I dozed off at about 9 something p.m last night.
Yesterday I ate 3 whole big 'Ikan Siakap' with 3+ plates of rice. With lots of spinach and soup. I was so hungry yesterday. The effect of fever? Maybe.

What else? Oh yeah, my favourite team, Germany made it to the semi-final! Yes! And I have a strong hunch that Germany will take home the Cup. Go Germany!
I'm a faithful, loyal supporter of Germany. I supported them since 2006 (fine, only four years ago but who cares?) and even though they lost in the semi final in 2006, I still support them. Yeah! In fact, Germany is the only team that I support throughout this world cup. No other teams. I will continue supporting them. Ahaha. In fact, even if Malaysia DID qualify for the World Cup in another 30 years or so, I will keep on supporting Germany! :P You see, it is HARD to forget your FIRST LOVE.
Their spirits, teamwork and discipline really inspires me.

I do remember what our Prime Minister, Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak said yesterday:

'Kita kena mempunyai semangat kerjasama. Kita boleh tengok Piala Dunia, Germany mempunyai semangat kerjasama!'
:D Indirectly, I'm feeling very proud of them.

'Jangan jadi primadona,' then everybody laughed.
'Bukan Maradona, primadona. Kerja nak kejar bola sendiri je,'

Hahahahaha.

So, I will be registering at Kuantan Main Campus tomorrow. And the first taaruf session will start at 9 p.m!
I hope I'll be tired enough that I don't have the mood to cry, to be sad or to be emotional. Like what I'm feeling right now. TIRED!!!

Jamie will go to Kuantan this Friday to send her sister to UIA (a.k.a where I'll be studying). So, I hope I can meet her! We'll have Tilawah Test and Photography session for matric card on Friday!

And uh-oh. Just realized it. Germany will have a match against Spain at 2.30 a.m Thursday! I hope there is a TV in my Mahallah. Please please! I want to watch!

What else? Okay, that's it. I guess. Gotta take my medicine and continue to sort out my stuffs.

Please pardon my English. I'm too tired to care about the grammatical errors and the incoherent sentences.

Good luck everyone and have a nice day!
^_^

Be Prepared

Got the info from Aishah.

Mahallah (college/hostel) dekat dengan hutan. Siapa yang bilik menghadap hutan kena selalu tutup tingkap takut monyet menceroboh. LOL.

Jarak Kulliyyah of Pharmacy dengan Mahallah lebih kurang macam jarak Zainab College dengan Pasar Malam. Jalan berbukit. Sediakan payung sebab panas. Atau hujan.

Tempat baru tapi tandas macam digunakan berkurun-kurun.

Bawak penyapu, kain buruk, penyodok sebab bilik sangatlah berhabuk macam tak guna setahun.

Minum air paip yang dimasak boleh menyebabkan sakit tekak. Water cooler only one per block. And kadang-kadang rosak. -____-.

Unlike in PJ, Cafe bukannya ada di tiap-tiap mahallah. Tapi terletak di tengah-tengah alam di antara mahallah.

Makanan agak mahal berbanding PJ tapi boleh tahan sedaplah.

Nak keluar outing susah sebab takde transportation. Ahaha.

Bawaklah tikar atau karpet.

Bawaklah Mosquito Spray sebab ada nyamuk.

Unlike PJ yang setiap level mahallah ada TV, dekat Kuantan takde. Ada dekat kafe brothers je. Takpe, nanti ramai-ramai serbu sana in case Germany masuk finals. :P

Need: Umbrella, ubat nyamuk, penyapu. small carpet /mat (KIV).

Whoa, best kan? An adventure! :D I'm not being sarcastic here.

Imagine this, Pudu Prison Hotel

I'm a bit upset when the government decided to tear down the historical Pudu Prison, so that the land can be developed into a place that houses those new swanky hotels, apartments. Blah blah blah. Like Malaysian doesn't have enough shopping malls and apartments already. *rolled eyes*.

 Pudu Prison

"The government has studied the matter and decided that the site is not a heritage site and will not be made a heritage site," Deputy Finance Minister Awang Adek told lawmakers.
"The government is of the opinion that it is not something we can be proud of, there may be many (other) things we can be proud of compared with a jail," Awang added.

(Malaysian Mirror, 2010)

Yeah, right. Whatever. Many other things that we can be proud of? Example? Shopping Malls? Now why don't you guys demolish all those abandoned apartments? *rolled eyes again*

There are many shopping malls in Malaysia but we only have ONE! I repeat again, ONE! SATU Pudu Prison. Once it is being torn down, there will be no other buildings that can replace Pudu Prison.

They have this narrow materialistic thinking that more tourists would come to Malaysia to SHOP. As if! If I were to go to other countries, I couldn't care less about shopping! I would like to see something original. I would want to explore the country's culture and heritage.

Seriously, those Malaysians should think out of the box. Check this out. Alcatraz Prison turned Alcatraz Hotel.

Before

 After

The room is nicer than my hostel room. -_____-
Receptionist

See, it is  10 times WAYYY scarier than Pudu Prison as it is located on an island, UNLIKE Pudu Prison which is located in the heart of busy bustling city.

What's more, there are LRT stations and LOTS of shopping complexes around Pudu Prison. Do we need MORE?

I'm not saying that Pudu Prison should be converted into a hotel. I'm terrified of the idea of staying in one of the prison cell myself. But, any other ideas, anyone? Museum? Pudu Prison Museum? Pudu Prison Disneyland (or whatever). Anything.

Sad, right? Like Julia said, "The developers have a close-minded view on what development is," They are only thinking about gaining more profits without taking the sentimental and historical values of that certain things into consideration. In this case, it's the Pudu Prison.
There are many other buildings in Malaysia that are torn down to give place to guess what? SHOPPING MALLS! Ughh.

E-X-P-E-N-S-I-V-E !!!!

Here is the list of books that we're gonna use throughout the FIRST SEMESTER in UIA Kuantan. For Pharmacy students.

I don't know the exact prices but here are the prices that I got from the internet. It might cost MORE than that!

Principles of Anatomy & Physiology 11th ed.,Gerard. J. Tortora Price: RM 237.03
can also use Guyton's  Textbook of Medical Physiology.

Pharmaceutical Practice Winfield and Richards RM 177
Organic Chemistry can use any books from any authors. They are all the same. Maybe it costs less than RM100.

And as for the other books, can just borrow from library and photostat some pages-ceh, you know yourself la right.
Senior said that the lecturer might give us her/his notes, but someone had to do the job of distributing the notes or whatsoever (class rep). More like, Pharmacy Year 1 Representative.
The total of 100+ Pharmacy students will be crammed together in one big lecture hall.

Two books costed about RM400+ (expensive, right?, I could buy 10 fictions with this money, each of them costing RM30+). To think again, if you didn't study, then the money you spent for these books would be wasted.

You see, we're not going to get the books we ordered until after the mid semester. So we can just buy the books at bookstores, though the prices are a bit higher.

Oh, never mind. I'll just buy Organic Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Practice. The rest, I'll just borrow them from my senior, who is actually the same age as us. LOL.

I'm supposed to be 'bersuka ria' right now. Why am I thinking about this? :P

Rainbow Colours.

Your rainbow is intensely shaded violet, indigo, and black.

What is says about you: You are a powerful person. You appreciate beauty and craftsmanship. You are patient and will keep trying to understand something until you've mastered it. Friends count on you for being honest and insightful.

Whoa, I can't believe that I'll be referring to the same list again after TWO YEARS!

Whaddaheck, it's 23rd of June already??!!!

It means that there is LESS THAN A WEEK before the registration day! Which is on 6th of JUly 2010! *don't stalk me, anyone. I'm not worth stalking. XD*

I haven't prepared anything. I haven't even paid the university fee.Hehehe.
I haven't even packed. I haven't even gone shopping for necessary stuffs (toiletries, etc). But I did make a list of what should be done. Eh, where's the list again? *searching*

And being the lazybum I've always known for, I didn't finish the organic chem book. HAHAHA. Which is pretty predictable from the start. Those formulae and steps bored me. Haih, tak boleh bosan bosan! What's going to happen to you in main camp?
I'll study okay. I'll only study when I need to.

Let's see. I haven't even sent the JPA 9A's above things with the academic transcript and whatsoever. Procrastinator, I am.

Several people asked me 'Dah start packing ke belum? Apa yang nak bawak?' then I said ' Er, belum start lagi. Masih bersuka ria!' XD

The list of stuffs that should be done

Pay RM 310 to Bank Muamalat
Photocopied I.C, parents' I.C, academic transcript.

Oh yeah. I need more tudung and socks. And arm socks (whoa, Sarah!).
MY COMPUTER CABLE!!!

Mug+spoon+fork+plate+bowl (already available)

That's all, I guess. Anyone wanted to add anything?

Stuffs that make me cry

I might be sarcastic but I'm quite sentimental, to tell the truth. I cried easily. Yes, I do. But that doesn't make me weak. I get stronger and more inspired after I cried. Maybe I really am grateful to be born as a girl. You know, the stereotype about 'it's normal for girls to cry' but for guys to do that, they will be labeled as a wimpy or a weakling. Not fair, right? To tell the truth, I don't really trust guys who cried easily. My friends had experience with those kind of guys. Oh, I'm not a wimp either. I only cried during the time when I'm really emotionally moved. Kalau jatuh basikal, luka, kena injections, cabut gigi semua tu saya BELUM PERNAH MENANGIS, okay.

Bear in mind, my definition of crying is 'Big fat tears rolling down my cheeks'. That's it. No more than that. No noise or what. Silent crying. Sometimes I was crying in front of the TV, with the rest of my family members watching the same thing but they NEVER realised that I cried. Yaay me! Haha.

Okay, moving on to the list of stuffs that make me cry.

GANDHI (1982)

Yeah, Gandhi. The 1982 film by Richard Attenborough. The one that won 8 awards from the Academy Awards. LOL.
Seriously, I don't know why I cried. Maybe it's because Ben Kingsley did a great job in portraying Mahatma Gandhi. The film started with Gandhi being shot by a er..terrorist, and it flashed back to 20 (I guess) years ago. The movie chronicled the journey of Gandhi when he was still as student until his death.

I got really touched at this part: The riots between Pakistani and Indians. Some Indians killed some Pakistanis. An Indian guy confessed to Gandhi that he had mercilessly banged the head of a Muslim Pakistani's boy onto the wall and the boy died. Then Gandhi said 'Adopt a Muslim boy orphan, around the same age as the boy that you had killed, raised him up according to the teachings of Islam,' The guy is a Hindu, BTW. Eh, well, the dialogue goes something like that.

I cried and cried and cried when Gandhi got killed. Okay, almost cried when I'm typing this.

UP (2009)

The movie 'Up'. I only cried in the beginning of the movie. See? Awal-awal pun dah menangis. I'm really touched with the never ending love Carl has towards Ellie, his childhood sweetheart+wife, even after she had died. Oh, but the rest of the movie is BORING, to tell the truth.

The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks

Yup, just read this book. I chose this cover because I know some of you despise Miley Cyrus. HAHAHA.
In the beginning, it was OK. Then later on, without me realising it, I was crying and crying and crying non stop. Okay, tipu. Menangis biasa je. Big fat tears rolled down my cheek. The usual silent cry.The other Nicholas Sparks' novel that I've read is 'The Walk to Remember'. After that, I can't bear to read any other Nick Sparks' novel. Takut menangis. LOL.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I almost cried watching this. Okay, I lied. I didn't cry. I'm just moved. Touched. When Sirius Black died. And when Harry flashed back to the time when he first entered Hogwarts together with Ron and Hermione, with the snippets of the early Harry Potter movies included, made me realised, Oh, how long has it been? I was eleven when I watched the first Harry Potter movie. So were they (Emma Watson). It seems like we, the audience are growing together with the casts of Harry Potter.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling

Okay, I didn't cry. But almost cry. When whatsthatguy's name, oh yeah. Colin Creevey and (sadly, GEORGE WEASLEY) got killed during the battle. And LUPIN! AND TONKS! Okay, I'm gonna cry now. And SNAPE! OMG, SNAPE! I'm ready to cry now. And the time when somebody (I forgot who) spat on McGonagall's face and Harry was so furious. Okay, forgot. The touching part when most of the characters from the early books returned to fight with Harry, against Voldemort and cronies. Oliver Wood (my favourite character!), Cho Chang (err, yeah. whatever). And then, here comes the MOST MOVING PART.

NINETEEN YEARS LATER. When we know that Harry is married to Ginny, had sons. When Harry looked into his son's Albus' eyes, saying that 'you are named after two Hogwarts headmasters, and one of them is the bravest person I've ever known. So it doesn't matter whether you're in Slytherin, bla bla, eh, I'm surprised I even remember this line XD'.
It's like, Harry Potter is now over! We couldn't believe it ourselves! We practically grow up together with Harry and the gang. As soon as I finished reading the book, I looked at the back of the book, with J.K. Rowling's picture on it, and I said 'YOU ARE A GREAT AUTHOR!'

Germany Vs Italy FIFA World Cup 2006 semi-final.
And this one. The epic goals from the epic semifinal match between Germany and Italy in World Cup 2006. Among all these list of stuffs that make me cry, this is the one that makes me really cry uncontrollably. HAHAHA.
Nobuta wo Produce

Nobuta wo Produce. The greatest Japanese drama I've ever watched. Please excuse the sissy guy on your left. XD. I cried watching the endings and some parts of the drama. The music score is EXCELLENT! Enough said. Nak tau, tengok sendiri. Highly recommended. This drama focuses more on friendship rather than lovey dovey stuffs.

Autumn in My Heart.

Okay, no need to elaborate more on this. I've been crying since the first episode. Lepas episode yg Won Bin dapat tau yang Eun Suh ada leukemia, call Farahin, menangis. Lepas tu Farahin pun kata dia menangis.LOL Sarah.

Delightful Girl Choon Hyang

Delightful Girl Chun Hyang. Sesetengah episod je yang 'tertouched'. Waktu tu nak dekat final exam tapi saya, Soul, Syidah, makan take-away ZC Cafe's spaghetti makan dalam bilik saya. Tiga orang kongsi satu meja. Depan tu ada laptop. Tengok cerita ni. Part yang sedih sampai nak menangis tu, saya ketawa nak cover air mata yang mengalir. Entah apa-apa.Nak dekat exam tu. Okay, but three of us got Dean's List (tak payah mention pun takpe XD). Jangan tiru perkara ini di hostel.

Gokusen

Gokusen 1. Eh, ada Matsumoto Jun. Eh, ada Oguri Shun! Eh, ada that guy yang jadi head dorm 1 dalam Hana Kimi! Watch the last episode and you're guaranteed to cry upon witnessing the sincerity of a teacher who wanted her students to be good people in the future. Academic doesn't really matters.

Oprah

My favourite talkshow.

Raihan-I'tiraf
I cried when I heard this nasyid song. I'tiraf by Raihan. Betapa banyaknya dosa yang dilakukan. Tapi Allah tetap sayang. :((

Ibu Mertuaku-P.Ramlee
This song and the other one 'Jeritan Batinku'. Sedih. But Kassim Selamat is kinda stupid, to tell the truth.

Stairways to Heaven

Stairways to Heaven. The song is heavenly heaven. Okay, merepek. I didn't cry, to tell the truth. In fact, I tried forcing myself to cry but I couldn't cry. What happened to me? But Syidah cried. Sometimes, she would take off her spectacles to shed the tears that flow from her eyes. XD. And yes, Mariam cried too. And Kwon Sang Woo is hot! And oh, the girl who played the young Han JungSuh  is the same actress who played 'Go Mi Nam' in 'You're Beautiful'. She was thirteen in this drama.

And, lots more actually. Of which I didn't really cry, but touched, moved, inspired. Don't ask about personal stuffs. :P

I want to tag, can or not? TAGGING:

FIKAH MUS
NURUL ZATY
WAN NURFAZLIYANA
AISHAH LIYANA
LISA FARHANA
NOOR JAMALINA
(OMG, rhymes!) -I don't think she'll respond to this. :P
SU'AIDAH AISYAH
SITI SAKINAH
UMMU ATIQAH (ooh, rhymes jugak, kinda :P)

Disclaimer: Images are googled and videos are youtubed. Don't sue me, anyone. XD

An Email from my Uncle

I've been thinking about my late grandma lately and I thought I'd share an email I received from my uncle a few days after she left us all. It's quite a beautiful letter (email), the ways he described his mother (my late grandma), and it teaches me to value the people around me, cherishing every moment spent with them. I should have posted this on the last 'Mother's Day'. Never mind. Everyday is a mother's day, am I right? :D They should be appreciated, remembered and treasured every single day, every hour, every minute, every second, every moment. .

My Dearest Sarah,

thanks for your email, it did cheer me up. :)

You know, i have always told my friends that my mother is so special because she may not understand anything but she understands everything.
They find this amusing..

See, Nek Wan might not be well-educated and she didn't understand a lot of things around her- how to operate the cable, how to use the mobile, even how to tune the radio.
She came to Singapore with Tok Wan only with her courage and determination. But miraculously with Allah's guidance, she was able to raise 6 children in the most unfamiliar environment, and by God, she raised each and everyone of her children well, with good education - duniawi and ukhrawi. This, despite all the odds- a feat not many women can take on these days.

I thought about it and i concluded that your arwah Nek Wan was so special. She had the gift of understanding her children and giving them the tools they need most for the soul. She might not be able to help us with our algebra homework or English assignment, but she was able to give us the determination, persistence and courage to live life to the fullest. She equipped us with lessons you will never be able to find in the classroom. She had the incomparable ability to adept to circumstances and make the best out of the situation. She didn't let anything or anyone bring her or her family down with her weaknesses, rather she mustered every strand of strength she had in her to trudge on. Until today, when i feel weak and troubled, i think of what Nek Wan would do if she is caught in the same situation and from there, i always find strength.

When I was down and felt that the whole world was against me, I just needed to go back home to her. She was able to discern every sorrow in me, even without me telling her, and she never failed to heal every single one of my wounds.
At night, she would sit and watch all the English programmes on TV with me even though she couldn't understand a word! But at the corner of my eye, I always caught her not watching the TV but rather looking at me, and i could feel the warmth of her smile and every word of the doa she sent to Allah for me.
Every day when i went to work, she would sit at the sofa and bid me farewell, and her sight never left me until i turn the corner at the staircase. I knew she was praying for me and my safety. I knew she was aware, the day will come she will not be able to see me off work anymore and prayed Allah will still be with me for always...

I miss Nek Wan so so much, and i pray i will be able to see he again soon. You are right, she would most likely want me to keep praying for her, and stop mourning, and one day InsyaAllah, we will see Nek Wan and Tok Wan again. Till then i just wish i have half her strength to go through the rest of my life without her. Even to the day she passed on, your Nek Wan was one strong lady.

I've never felt so loved and cared for, and i guess that's the magic that mothers have. You still have yours. Cherish every single moment you have with your parents ok, and make every moment matter. Always remind Mak and Abah how much you love and appreciate them.

Keep in touch, all the best for your results and may Allah be with you always.
Whenever you remember Nek Wan, sedekah Fatehah ok?

Lots of Love,
Busu
May Allah bless her soul. Al-Fatihah.
