Talking about love and relationships

Assalamualaikum and hello to all :)

Okay, minggu ni dan minggu depan memang sangat busy dengan kuiz memanjang, assignments/presentations, hospital visit, AGD segala bagai. But as my motto goes 'Jangan gelabah, relax sudah,'. Yeah, walaupun busy, syukur dikurniakan ketenangan oleh yang Maha Esa. Harap-harap ketenangan ni akan berkekalan, insya-Allah.

Erm, what else? This will be a really random post.
Oh yes, I think I have started to love Pharmacy. Meaning, I have started to love all the subjects I'm learning. I LOVE PHARMACOLOGY, especially! Kalau nak buat Masters or Ph.D pun, nak amik Pharmacology! Insya-Allah. Amin.

Tadi Dr.Qamar ada cakap sesuatu yang memorable.
'To the sisters, please love your brothers as if they were your own brothers'. and vice versa.

Faham tak? Maksudnya, Dr. Qamar tak menggalakkan students batch kita orang ni ada perhubungan lebih daripada kawan.

Lagi satu, dia cakap
'Until I get my Ph.D, I never allowed a single girl to enter my life. When I've attained my Ph.D, and worked for 4 years, then only I allowed a woman to enter my life. I have lots of money in my bank account, and I spent about RM 100,000 for my wedding, giving my wife RM 50,000 jewellery,'

Nampak macam berlagak tapi takde pun sebenarnya. Dr. Q nak bagi mesej yang belajar la betul-betul dulu, baru fikir pasal relationship.

'Right now your future is not secured. And if you get involved in these things, you will suffer,'

This is really great. Membangkitkan semangat untuk belajar. Dan sambung belajar. Masters, Ph.D. Insya-Allah, selagi masih dikurniakan akal fikiran dan tubuh badan yang sihat, saya akan terus belajar sampai Ph.D.
Yelah, walaupun sekarang ni first year pun belum habis lagi. Tapi tak salah nak merancang masa depan, kan?

Oklah, sebut pasal love and relationships ni,  saya  ni single but NOT available (LOL), tidak pernah menjalinkan hubungan dengan mana-mana lelaki langsung (tak pernah ada special boyfriend, tak pernah couple, etc) atas beberapa sebab.
1. Sejak Darjah Satu sampai Tingkatan 5, saya bersekolah di sekolah perempuan (Convent School).
2. Parents saya memang dah bagi warning tak payahla nak ada boyfriend-boyfriend ni.
3. Saya tak berminat. LOL.

Yang hantar mesej 'Boleh berkenalan?', hantar surat cinta, mintak nombor telefon tu semua memang ada laa..Tapi again,  tak berminat. I will never toy with any guy's feelings. Kalau tak berminat, cakap terus dengan ayat-ayat yang baik, tak payah nak gedik-gedik jinak-jinak merpati pulak.

Contohnya dulu tiba-tiba dapat mesej:
Stranger: Hai, boleh berkenalan?
Sarah: Siapa ni?
Stranger :(apa entah nama dia, kawan kepada classmate kat Convent dulu, dpt no phone kat school mag)
Sarah: Oh, maaflah.Mak saya tak bagi saya ada boyfriend-boyfriend ni. Lagipun saya tengah belajar. Sori ok?
Stranger: Takpela, orang dah tak sudi kan, nak buat macam mana. (LOL)

Takde kerja ke apa tiba-tiba nak jalinkan hubungan dengan strangers. Okay, back to the point.

Tapi bila masuk universiti ni, mak saya tanya
Mak: Dah ada calon ke? (dia gurau je sebenarnya)
Saya: Hmm, takde. Haha.
Mak: Senior?
Saya: Hah? Senior pharmacy?. HAHAHAHA (gelak sarcastic)
Abah: Biarlah, baru first year (yeah!)

Lepas tu mak saya cakap 'Habiskan degree dulu, lepas tu baru fikir pasal tu semua,'
Saya pulak fikir 'Ambik Ph.D (amboih) dulu, baru fikir pasal semua tu,'

Tapi agak susah, sebab saya seorang perempuan. Perempuan ni semakin tua, semakin jatuh saham (ye ke?) LOL. Takpela, itu hanya perancangan saya(sebab setakat ni saya tak ada calon, haha), tak taulah Allah yang Maha Mengetahui ada perancangan yang lebih baik.

Bila tengok balik, lagi bagus kalau bila dah kerja baru fikir ni semua. For example, lecturer Physics saya kat CFS dulu, Bro Wan Syahrum pun berkahwin dengan Miss Linda (skrg ni Madam, haha) waktu time kerja. Meaning, waktu kerja baru diorang jumpa.Kiranya, baguslah. Sebab bila kita dah kerja, kita dah matang, kita dah ada perancangan masa depan.

Jadi kalau boleh waktu tengah belajar ni saya nak elakkan perasaan yang macam tu dan fokus kepada akademik dan karier masa depan. Lagipun saya anak sulung. Adik ada empat orang. Saya kena tolong ibu bapa saya support adik-adik saya dulu. Family is my first priority!

Ada seorang kawan rapat saya tanya 'Macam mana nak hilangkan perasaan suka kat seseorang (crush la, kiranya) dan kadang-kadang dia rasa macam dia perlukan seorang boyfriend dan dia terfikir ada tak lelaki untuk dia'. Ni orang yg tanya eh, bukan saya reka soalan sendiri.

Ni pandangan saya.
Saya sangat percaya kepada Allah. Saya mempercayai bahawa Allah telah 'reserve' someone for me. The best one for me. My soulmate, my best friend. Tapi kita dua orang belum ditakdirkan untuk berjumpa lagi sebab masih banyak kekurangan dalam diri kami berdua.Masanya belum tiba.
Saya ada beberapa kriteria untuk my future spouse. And I'm sure that 'future spouse' has his own criteria too. But we both realized that in order to meet someone with that criteria, we have to fulfill the criteria ourselves first!

And so I believe, he's somewhere out there. I believe in Allah. There's no reason on why I should fret over 'which guy will I end up with' or 'will there be a guy who actually likes me?' Nope. Just have faith in Allah. And try your best to live up to your 'future spouse's' criteria.

'Ya Allah, sebelum saya dibukakan pintu hati untuk menyayangi seseorang , berilah peluang kepada saya untuk mencintai-Mu (to fall deeply in love with you) dan Rasul-Mu dahulu,'

Ya, saya nak merebut cinta Allah dulu.

Amin ya-Rabbal-Alamin.

P.S. Bila baca balik, terfikir 'Eh, kenapa post ni jiwang sangat?' HAHAHAHAHA. This is soo not me.

I am a History Buff

Assalamualaikum and hello to all :)

I’m always attracted to something old, something dusty, hidden in an old cupboard that is also filled with dozens of old-fashioned porcelain plates for example, something that was produced and made many years ago, before the year I was born, something that no longer exists in this present moment.

And so, I tend to be drawn towards everything old, vintage, antique. Old diaries, old black and white pictures with adorned with patterned borders, grim looking yet magnificently constructed old edifices.

I love visiting historical sites, historical places. Malacca and Penang top my list in ‘The list of favorite states in Malaysia’.

I love the subject ‘History’. It’s the only academic subject that I need not to force myself to read and comprehend it, as opposed to other subjects about terrestrial bodies (humans, the anatomy and physiology). I would gladly read any recommended books about the History of Malaysia (Malaya), History of Asia, History of the World.

I love visiting museums too. Preferably the ones in a pre-war colonial mansions, erected during the British and Dutch era. It fascinates me to learn and know about what happened in the past. To see one day in a life of a British official in Malaya. To go to the times of the Egyptian Civilization, Mesopotamian, the 12 China Dynasties.

The History Channel is my most favourite Astro channel. The next ones would be HBO, Star Movies, Cinemax (LOL. I’m a Movie Buff too :P). I love watching documentaries about wars and stuff. There is one particular documentary about Rare War Films (in colours!).

I’m exceptionally curious about what really happened, how my ancestors (and the other old people) live during the times and tides of wars and post independence, what they did. Their sources of entertainment, the foods they consumed, the clothes they wore, basically everything!

And thus, my never-would-be-fulfilled, no doubt, an impossible dream is to go back to the past and witness and experience everything that happens. Not as one of them, but as a spectator, quite akin to watching a real life drama, in a real life world, a 3D version. Actually being there, to look back at the old buildings, the glorious era of the Malaccan empire, the Ottoman empire, to meet(as a spectator) Rasulullah s.a.w and his companions, the Hijrah from Makkah to Madinah, the wars between them and the infidels, the World War 1 and World War 2, to actually look what happened to the countries before wars and after the wars, to be there at Stadium Merdeka, witnessing the Declaration of Merdeka by Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra al-Haj, to actually witness the horrible massacres committed by the Japanese during their occupations in Malaya. To join Hang Tuah and Tun Mamat in their expedition to meet Puteri Gunung Ledang, asking for her hands of marriage to Sultan Mansor Shah. To visit P.Ramlee’s sets in Studio Jalan Ampas. To chronicle the developments of Malaysia and Singapore from my own point of view, just like a novel/diary entry (rather than reading them somewhere, written by some boring old scholars). There are too many things that I wanted to do. I wanted to go to the past to appreciate what I have in the present, to be wary of the future.

Of course, it is an impossible thing. One impossible thing. Right now, I would just satisfy my curiosity by

Select a subject of interest. For instance, the History of Malacca
Reading books about the old time Malacca
Looking at pictures of old Malacca
Visiting the historical sites in Malacca and to compare and contrast between old and modern Malacca.
Imagining and picturing what happened in the past, when visiting the historical sites. IMAGINATION is important!

It does not mean that I’m an outdated person, always thinking about the past. I would rather regard myself as a history buff, passionately curious about what happened to the world and how that leads to me, living here in the present. I mean, without any intervention in the past, I would, say, be born to an extremely poor and deprived Malay family living in MALAYA, who only got its independence from the JAPAN in the year 2000 ( in case the bombings of Pearl Harbor, Hiroshima and Nagasaki never occurred)Hey, anything can happen, right? And I wanted to find the truth! Yes, somebody said that History is a mere fiction, retellings of events passed from generation to generations, with some added artificial ‘facts’ along the way.

I wanted to do a proper research, writing thesis and publishing history books that are easily understood and comprehended by young modern generations. That could touch their hearts to the core. To instill a sense of patriotism and appreciation towards the past leaders and to love our country.

But before that, I must show my thanks and appreciation to these historical figures:

Prophet Muhammad s.a.w, Dato’ Onn Jaafar, Tunku Abdul Rahman, Sultan Mansor Shah, Parameswara, Hang Tuah and others. Without them. Maybe, I wouldn’t be a Muslim, wouldn’t be Malay, and wouldn’t be living in a comfortable life in the present. History shaped the way we are now. And not to forget, thank you to the current Malaysian leaders for managing to ‘maintain’ our independence. Though we might have some disagreements here and there ( in cases related to deconstruction of old historical buildings such as Pudu Prison,Bukit Bintang Girls School to make places for stupid shopping complexes and all but hey, thanks! But of course, my ultimate thanks go to Allah the All-knowing and most Merciful. The Greatest creator of all events that occur ever since the universe is created till the End of the world (and post-end of the world).Without Him, I would never become the way I am right now.

In what way shall I convey my thanks? By studying sincerely, knowledge-oriented-ly to become a respectable Malay Muslim. Oi, be sincere!

With that, thank youuu…

Sarah Sarcastic dan Monyet

Assalamualaikum and hello to all :)

Alkisah....
Pada pukul 8.30 pagi macam tu, saya sedang berehat-rehat di kerusi sambil membaca buku. Dekat bilik waktu tu saya seorang aje. Kelas start pukul 9 pagi tapi selalunya pukul 8.40 macam tu baru bergerak berjalan ke Kulliyyah of Pharmacy.

Tiba-tiba, kedengaran bunyi 'seseorang' sedang memunggah sesuatu.
Hatiku berdetik (cewwah) 'Siapakah itu?' Ingatkan Kak Aliya dan Kak Nana dah pergi kelas. Zimah pulak belum balik sebab tiket takde.

Saya pun bangun, ingin menjenguk. Dan tiba-tiba,

Seekor makhluk berbulu perang duduk bertenggek atas rak buku tu. Jarak antara monyet itu dan saya tak sampai satu meter pun. Memang sangat dekatlah.

Maka saya pun 'AHHHHHH!!!!!' Oi, apasal monyet ni tak lari?
Monyet tu buat muka selamba, seolah-olah berkata 'Is that all you can do?' Hampeh.

Saya pun jerit lagi 'AHHHHH!!!!' oi, kenapa tak pergi lagi. Try lagi la 'AHHHHHH!!!!!!!'. Monyet tu tak berganjak pun. Kurang asam punya monyet. Dahlah menghilangkan 'kemachoan' diri ini sebab menjerit. Niat menjerit adalah untuk menghalau monyet tu tapi tak berkesan pulak. Tak cukup decibel.

Last-last, dah fed-up menjerit. Saya pun cakap 'SHUUH!!!

Maka mereka berempat masuk ke hutan bersama-sama and they live happily ever after.

THE END.

***
Ketika Sarah menjerit...

Di bathroom...

'Eh, siapa yang menjerit tu? Dengar macam suara Sarah je,' Syau dan Naza berfikir.

the so-called effective methods of handling quizzes and exams

Assalamualaikum and hello to all.:)

I've discovered the effective methods of studying and handling quizzes/exams.

Number one rule: Jangan gelabah. Seriously. So what kalau belum habis study  (atau dah baca tapi tak faham dengan sebetul-betulnya) and esok ada quiz? HOHO.

Number two: Tidur. Saya tak pernah stay up sampai pukul 2, 3 pagi untuk study bila ada quiz pada keesokan harinya. Bila esok tu quiz, lagi awal saya tidur berbanding hari-hari biasa. Lepas solat Isyak terus tidur. Bila bangun pagi, whoaa, fresh! Ataupun tidur awal, mindset untuk bangun pukul 4.30 pagi, lagi bagus daripada stay up.

Number three: Banyakkan berdoa. Lepas solat tu doa la 'Ya Allah, please bagi saya dapat jawab quiz Pharmacology hari Khamis ni, huhuhuhu'. Dan bacala ma'thurat/al-Quran lepas solat Subuh tu, lepas tu doa. Insya-Allah.

Number four: Bila dapat soalan, relax je. Treat quiz tu macam soalan saja-saja je lecturer nak bagi.

Number five: Kalau dah terasa macam soalan quiz susah ataupun ada tertinggal sesuatu, again, cool je. Relax. So what? You've tried your best, walaupun study last minute (at least study la jugak berbanding orang yang tak study langsung, LOL).

P.S Esok nak pergi Rehlah, hoho. So, tak jadi MC untuk Biomedical Symposium tu. Rehlah lagi best la.

of Nasi Beriyani, Fictions and Biochem Quiz

(I wrote this last night but couldn't post it due to the abysmal internet connection).

Assalamualaikum and hello to all. :)

 Dilemma number 1
Nasi Beriyani + Fasting
Lapar. Hungry. Nasi Beriyani Kak Aliya beli ada depan mata. Tapi tak boleh makan. Why?
Reason no 1: Gotta fast for 10 hours (starting from 10 pm) for tomorrow's experiment- Oral Glucose Test- Fasting/Starvation state vs Well-Fed/Satiation state
Reason no 2: I have Biochem quiz tomorrow and I need to stay up! Stay up's not good, I know. But I have no choice! If I eat, then will have the postprandial effect. I will get sleepy and sleepy, glucose amount is high. Then I cannot study. I'm not feeling sleepy at all right now. So it's the right time to study! But I'm feeling hungry. Erkk...

Guilt: Takde siapa nak Nasi Beriyani yang Brand New tak disentuh ini. I'm the only (girl) person I know who would consume heavy food at the wee hours of the morning. (as late as 1 am).Yang lain? DIET... *rolled eyes*. Hahaha.

Dilemma no 2:
Orhan Pahmuk's My Name is Red and Tash Aw's The Harmony Silk Factory are staring at me, seducing me, enticing me to pick them out from the bookshelf. To devour every page, to savour every words and sentences, to entice me away from my Biochemistry notes. I was almost trapped but reality slaps me hard on the face. Oi, esok quiz oi!
And so, I lightly touched 'My Name is Red', coaxing 'him', caressing 'him'. Is there anyone is the world that have lust over books other than moi?  It's okay, I will read you tomorrow. The exact words I said to 'him'.
Eh, suddenly Amy Tan's The Bonesetter's Daughter called upon me 'Sarah, read me again! Read me again!' Alamak, macam mana ni?

And so I plugged my ears with earphones, listening to Yiruma's The River Flows in You. And started rereading Carbohydrate Metabolism. Glycolysis. Gluconeogenesis. Citric Acid Cycle. Glycogenesis, Glycogenolysis, HMS Pathway, Cori Cycle, Alanine Cycle. Bicycle.

Done. Next, Protein Metabolism. Perghhh... Cholestrol Metabolism, Lipid Metabolism.

Guilt: I finished reading Jane Green's Swapping Lives instead of Biochem.

FIVE MONTHS HOLIDAY!!! CEPATLAA!!!

Edit: Biochem quiz dah amik tadi. HOHO.

Morning facts

Assalamualaikum and hello to all :)

It's 9.31 a.m. I had just returned from having breakfast of roti canai and teh tarik outside together with my dearest roommates, Kak Aliya and Kak Nana. :D
Here, list of facts. Maybe confessions as well. :P

Let's start my facts and confessions with Ummul Furqan, al-Fatihah.

1.  I love it when people called me 'Sarah Syahirah'. Recently, there has been a number of people (usually, people I'm not really close to) who called me 'Sarah Syahirah'. For example 'Assalamualaikum.Ni Sarah Syahirah ke?' or even 'Sarah Syahirah buat yang ni eh'. Whoa. Macam cair sekejap, walaupun yang cakap tu perempuan, LOL. Surely, you would really like it if somebody addressed you with your full name, right? ;)

2. Some classmates started to call me 'Sarah Kushairi'. And when they did, I would look at them with disbelief, asking 'Eh, you read my blog eh?' (perasan) hahaha. Sarah Kushairi is my pen name.

3. The meaning of my name- as Maryam Sakinah (a friend) analysed it is 'The famous princess'. Well, I'm certainly not famous. And I'm not a princess. But I do like watching 'Princess Diaries' and reading the books. Okay, takde kena mengena.

4. I'm a right handed person. Which means, my left side of the brain dominates the other side. But I seriously think my right brain is functioning more effectively and better, that I tend to use my right brain more than I did with my left brain. Throughout the school years (and university), I tend to have better performances in subjects such as language (Bahasa Melayu and English), history, philosophy and yeah, Pendidikan Islam and Tasawwur Islam (where I self-studied during SPM and miraculously scored an A1) rather than in Science subjects such as Biology (Physiology, Anatomy), Chemistry, Physics and Maths.

5. How did I arrive to this conclusion? Well, my exam marks proved it. I tend to get higher marks (and sometimes the highest in class) for those subjects mentioned above (language, arts and thinking subjects).Oh yeah, if that's not enough, I scored a B3 in Biology for SPM (the only one yang dapat B and thus ruined my dreams of securing JPA scholarship to overseas). Oh well. Malaysia lagi best la!

6. Out of all the science subjects, I love Chemistry the most (maybe that explains why Allah put me in Pharmacy).

7. My mum enrolled me and my brother to Music class (organ/keyboard)  and Art class when we were in primary school. I performed well in both (Music and Art) but I prefer (and performed better) the former over the latter. I continue to practise Music till now (for mere self-enjoyment and satisfaction) and I prefer to play by ears (just like Nodame in Nodame Cantabile) instead of reading the music notes (of which I think are rather complicated and confusing at times). I play keyboard, piano and organ (these 3 instruments are generally similar). I had a try on the guitar but later gave up because I couldn't stand the pain of having to continuously struck and pluck the delicate and prickly guitar strings. Sakit jari tau!

8. I took music lessons at school. I performed in the Recorder Ensemble for school events and participated in choir competitions, my voice range is 'Tenor-Soprano'. I love classical and instrumental music. And oldies! :P

9. I'm taking Pharmacy in university which was originally not my first choice. But later on, I feel an immense gratitude of having to be 'chosen' by Allah the Great and all-Knowing to take this course, instead of taking Medicine or Dentistry (my roommate (4th year Dentistry)-Kak Nana confessed 'Rasa macam silap pilih course').I love Pharmacology, but I performed better in Pharmacy Practice. >____<

10. When it comes to science subjects, I'm just a mediocre student. I can cope with those subjects, but I'm not an exceptional science student. I don't really have flair in science subjects (my parents both take art courses in university), the same goes with my mum's siblings where most of them take art-related courses such as Law, Language, Architecture, Finance (one of my aunts is a chemical engineer). Maybe this explains it. Genetic factors, cewwah. Tapi yang anak petani, penoreh getah boleh score pulak kenapa? Jangan cari alasan, Sarah! :P

11.  Whenever my Mom called me and asked 'Have you studied?, I will go >_____<. Study mana boleh paksa, wakakakaka.

12. I love books (fictions, biographies, documentaries- artsy stuffs). Scientific books filled with boring scientific terms are the most potent and effective sedatives.

13. The library (leisure reading section) is my number 2 place of retreat in IIUM Kuantan. I would go there almost every day after lectures, sitting comfortably on the sofa, with books on my hand (and lap). Whenever I feel stressed out, the library is the first place I'll head to. The sight of neatly arranged books of assorted colours and titles provide an immediate mind therapy. The first retreat place is my own compartment, of course, which serves as a cinema, a library (my bookshelf stacked with books), a hotel room :P

14. I should have taken art courses in university. But I declined based on several reasons;
- Art courses mana dapat JPA scholarship :P (jawapan mata duitan)

- I wanted to develop both sites of my brain (jawapan saintifik)

- I wanted to serve the community, helping the ummahs and my country (jawapan professional)

- Kalau amik art courses, orang pandang rendah.
Contohnya 'Eh, amik apa eh kat universiti?' and if I said 'Saya amik Media Studies' mesti orang pandang pelik dan berfikir (budak ni tak cerdik sangat or nanti nak kerja apa? Biasalah, masyarakat Malaysia *rolled eyes*)

- I know that I could do more than just languages and art-related stuffs (jawapan sahih, and my mom said it)

15. When I was 7-8, I watched 'Spellbinder' on TV. There were some guys who were scientists and I really thought 'Whoa, they're really cool!' and at school, when the teacher asked me what do I want to become when I grow up, I'll proudly say 'Saya nak jadi saintis cikgu!' Then the teacher will go 'Wow, bagus! Kena belajar betul-betul la macam ni'. Yelah, berapa kerat je budak darjah 2 kata nak jadi saintis.

16. I've never thought that the course I'll be taking 12 years later is scientist-related (research-related).

17. I wrote, directed and produced my first movie when I was 18, in CFS. The short movie won 2nd place in Ramadhan Short Movie Competition. Not to brag or whatsoever, just further affirming my theory that I performed better in those kind of fields.

18. When I said I'm good in languages, it doesn't mean that I'm the best in the field. For a start, I didn't get exempted in English when I was in CFS (budak-budak English power sangat je yang exempted) and I only scored Band 5 in MUET ( tu pun atas garisan je, LOL).And do notice the numerous amounts of grammatical errors committed in this blog post (and others).

19. I really have a lot of things to do and study
-Pharmacology report
-Microbiology reportS
-Study Microbiology
-Study Pharmacology for upcoming quiz (memorizing drugs' names)
-Study Biochemistry
-Study Organic Chemistry
-Study Pharmaceutical Analysis
-UNGS assignment

20. My head is much clearer now. My bottled-up feelings are now unbottled, poured, conveyed.

Kita tamatkan dengan Tasbih al-Kifarah dan Surah al-Asr.

And yeah, thanks for reading up till here. I wish you all the best in whatever you're doing, be loved by God  and everyone around you.

Tun Dr. Mahathir waved at me!

Assalamualaikum and hello to all. :)

Right now, I'm in my crib back at IIUM Kuantan, sipping Lipton Green Tea in the mug(teabags, not the ones in bottles :P) while typing this.
I had a wonderful one week vacation, thank you very much.
My family and I went to Colmar Tropicale, Berjaya Hills in Bukit Tinggi last Friday and Saturday! We only stayed there for a night but we have explored everything! :)

This is how it goes. We went to the Japanese Village and when the shuttle lorry (something like that) brought us back to Colmar, we saw a large crowd of people and police.

Hey, what's happening?
And so we went to the crowd. Whaddaheck is happening? Who's coming?

Then my whole family stepped onto the top of the low wall (or something) and saw a police car in front, an MPV in the middle and another police car behind.
We were still thinking who could that be.Suddenly, a very well known figure wind down his window screen and waved at us! We were all standing at the very last row and he happened to wave at us! And actually looked at us! Then my dad said 'Eh, it's Dr. Mahathir!' and the man beside my dad said 'Oh, Dr. Mahathir?'

All of us (my family and I) kept on waving at him and smiled to him. He smiled back. He had a very charming smile in person.  And we could see Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah sitting besides him.:DD

Later on, I found myself whining and complaining on how dissapointed am I not being able to meet Tun Dr.Mahathir in person. I WANT TO MEET HIM! My family members were dissapointed as well. Oh well. Stupid shuttle for taking such a stupid long time to pick us from the Japanese Village back to Colmar! >__<

Okay, case one.
Case two. My dad and I went to visit Syafiq in UIA. We wanted to eat the super cheap Chicken Chop and Fish n Chips there. Each for only RM 4.50! Then for the first time, I went down to Cafe C, which is the Cafe which is ultimately reserved for Brothers only! And eh, I saw that Mak Cik Chicken Chop who worked in ZC cafe before. I missed her! She's an Indonesian, by the way.

My brother ordered the chicken chop and fish and chips. I looked at the MakCik. Then she looked back at me, surprised and said

'Ni adik yang dulu tinggal di Zainab ya?'
I was surprised as well. How on earth did she manage to remember me? My face?

'Aah, ye,' I replied.

'Lama tak nampak adik!'

'Oh, saya sekarang di Kuantan,'

She smiled and said 'Oh, patutlah. Adik dulu selalu beli chicken chop!'

Yaay! She remembered me! Mak Cik Chicken Chop remembered me!!!

Oklah. That's all!

I just finished watching Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Ketinggalan zaman, I know. And I LOVE PERCY JACKSON!

And thus, I've made up my mind. I'm gonna buy the Percy Jackson Box Set (Books) next week at Popular. Yeehaa!

It's better to splurge on books than on make-ups and clothes. LOL.
Now, back to another SEVEN weeks of lectures. Wish me luck!

Just for the sake of updating volume umpteen

Assalamualaikum and hello to all.
Happy Chinese New Year to the Chinese! :)

Actually, I don't know what to write about. I don't normally post stuffs to the blog if I don't have any idea on what to write about.

Today is Wednesday. then thursday, friday, saturday, sunday. Monday-lectures. -______-

Nak tulis apa ni?

Oh, oklah. Sarah and Amiirah were selected to become the MCs for the upcoming Malaysian Biomedical Sciences Symposium 2010 in IIUM Kuantan.

I hope the event is as good as it sounds. >___<

I'm thinking of starting a collection of Classic Movies. English classics. P. Ramlee's movies tak payah beli sebab tiap-tiap hari Astro Prima tayangkan pukul 10 pagi.

Apart from those listed  here(click), I wanted to add a number of good old classics to my watching list.

1. Roman Holiday
2. Breakfast at Tiffany's
3. Casablanca

Anyone want to suggest more?

And I would like to watch (not buy)

Old movies from the 70's, 80's, 90's
1. The Shining
2. Pet Sematary
3. It

All three of them from Stephen King's novel

I've discovered several videos from youtube.

1) the one that made me shed a tear :P

2) the one that makes me go 'WHOA'

3) Rare videos

4) Remake video

5)The BEST karaoke video of 'I see the light' from Tangled

6) BEST MALAYSIAN MOVIES (okay, with trailers) produced by Malaysia's BEST filmmakers (modern filmmaker, no one could replace P.Ramlee)

Okay, that's all!

I need to learn how to love...

Assalamualaikum and hello to all.
I'm at home right now, 'enjoying' my one week mid break. Yeaah, right. With stuffs to do.
So far, life has been great, Alhamdulillah.
Oh yeah, I was one of the editorial team members of the Pharmacy Students magazine- i-Mag. And guess what, I was selected as the Assistant Editor 2. Erkkk.. That is by chance, of course, as no one except me put 'Editorial' as the first preference. Oh well.

Also, as one of the content developers, I did
1) An interview with one of the best final year Pharmacy student. Of which I need to translate it to English( interview was conducted in Malay) and thus write out the whole interview session by listening to the recording stuffs of which we had recorded earlier. Gee,, my English and vocabs sucks. >__<

I also need to
1) Do a research about the current issues happening in the Pharmacy field.
2) Compile a series of quotes

Deadline: As soon as this one week holiday is over.

I was also in the iPhA's (IIUM Pharmacy Students' Association) Publication and Information Bureau. And also involved in the newsletter. Required to write a one full page article on backpack traveling. WHOA!

Dateline: Ditto

I'm thinking of changing my profession from a Drug Dealer to a Journalist. HAHAHA. Okay, kidding.

What else? Oh yeah. THREE lab reports that need to be completed. Medical Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Fundamentals of Pharmacology.

Okay, back to the topic. I need to learn how to love. By that, I mean;

  • I need to learn how to love what I'm studying. What I'm LEARNING. I need to be sincere. And by that, I need to come early to the class (LOL).  I need to study for the purpose of GAINING KNOWLEDGE, not for the purpose of acing quizzes and exams. I know that I have a mission in life. That Allah has given me this brain (fine, some levels of intellect) in order for me to change the world to a better place! And to change the world, we need someone who is dedicated and sincere. Someone who LOVES knowledge, and have a firm grasp about what there is to know about his or her field. Not someone with HIGH CGPAs but failed to recall nor understand clearly on what she had learned and memorized, blurting them out word by word without even understanding the real mechanisms of what happened when the drug is introduced in the body (in my case).

And to be sincere, I need a lot of help. From Allah, particularly. Dear Allah, please let me become sincere in learning your knowledge, for the sake of developing my ummah and changing the world into a better place. Amin.

That is my number one problem. I need to be sincere! I need to love the knowledge that I'm learning right now!

Alamak, dah melodramatic la pulak.

Don't get me wrong. I love Pharmacy. It is the most ever (redundancy) interesting field ever! I love doing experiments. I wanted to do research. I'm just having a hard time to study sincerely.

I mean, it's hard to become as sincere as Rancho in '3 Idiots'. But I'll try.

You people can't blame us for being too exam-oriented. We couldn't help it. The academic system in Malaysia made us become exam-oriented. Dah membesar bersama-sama dengannya sejak darjah satu hingga tingkatan 5 lagi.

And I'm glad that I finally realised the importance of becoming knowledge-oriented when I stepped into the university, thanks to some of the inspiring lecturers I have here.

With that, thank you for reading.

I'm in the Auditorium

Assalamualaikum and hello to all :)

I'm currently blogging using Amiirah's laptop. :P

The most important lesson that I have learned throughout this week

'JANGAN TAMAK, NANTI KENA MINUS-MARKED':P

In case you don't know what 'Minus Mark' is, allow me to enlighten you.

In IIUM, the Kulliyyahs of the 3 critical courses in Malaysia (Pharmacy, Dentistry, Medical) are using the Minus Marking System for the MCQ questions in quizzes and examinations.

It drives us NUTS! We couldn't apply our 'Kemahiran Menghentam' here. Kalau hentam, ambik! Minus one mark!

Tak faham eh?
Okay, let's say, there are 20 questions. You answered all of them. 15 out of 20 are correct. The other 5 are wrong. The total marks? JENG JENG JENG! 10! Yeah! TEN!
It's better if you just leave the 5 questions that you're unsure of the most true, correct answer and get 15 marks instead of just trying your luck (DON'T!) and just darken them out anyway.

I tell you, UIA won't tolerate this kind of irresponsible behaviour that might pose a great impact to our future careers.

Like, imagine if you're a pharmacist. And the doctor prescribed the patient with Propanolol( Beta blocker, betul ke? See see see!) What if you failed to decipher the doctor's oh-so-horrible handwritings and went on giving them errr.. Econazole (anti-fungal) instead (tak boleh blah punya example). What happened? And what's more, you just gave in! Ok fine la, econazole pun econazole la. Bunyi nak sama. Cuma tambah e je kat belakang.

Okay, what a lame and stupid example. Another one.

The IV drip counts is 10 drops per minute. And let's say that the doctor asked you to prepare 0.9% NaCl (normal saline) Which equals to 0.9 g per 100 ml. Then when you calculated bla bla, eh, terlebih pulak letak NaCl. 1 g je lebih. Takpela. Mana ada banyak perbezaan pun. Malas nak buat sekali lagi.

And then padan muka you if the doctor diagnosed the patient with extreme (melampau pulak) rise in blood pressure.

Eh, so far, betul ke examples ni?

Businessmen are risk takers. But the same could not be said to pharmacists, doctors, dentists, nurses, allied health science practitioners who are involved with the life of humans!

Also, minus marks teach you not to be tempted with the ideas of gaining fame and fortunes.

In this case, okay, you have darken all 30 questions. All of them might be true! I'm going to get the highest marks in class, yaay! As if!

In the real working world. I think this dose might bring significant improvement on the Prime Minister's Health! I'm gonna be famous when he is cured! He might gave me a job at the cabinet as the Minister of Health! Yaay! Haha, right. What if the PM died? You went straight to jail instead. HOHO).

You get me, right? I hope so! If you still don't understand, ask! Don't just assume! :P

Okay, that's all. Bye!

How to Stop Worrying and START LIVING!!

Salam and hello to all :)

YAAY!!! I had successfully went through taking three different quizzes for three different subjects (Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Medical Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry).

I think I did OK la for all those three. The results? Apa-apa la asal jangan fail :P. I don't want to spend my time worrying about things of the past. Just keep moving forward! Stop worrying about unnecessary things and START LIVING happily!

Oh yes, that is a title of a famous motivational book of which I couldn't remember the name of the author. I think that motivational books are irrelevant and overrated. I used to read lots of those during my school years, with hopes and desires that I could boost up my morale, determination blah blah blah. But as I stepped my feet into college/university life, I realised that the one most trusted person that could motivate me is my OWN MOTHER. :')

And of course, myself. It's hard to motivate yourself but really, a motivation from your own self is the best motivation for you (what's with this sentence ? >___<)

So, don't care la about the marks of the quizzes. Let's just concentrate on future quizzes and seeking, concentrating on great possibilities out there.

I've been sleeping at 2.00 a.m throughout this whole week (due to those three quizzes) so just now in class, I kept nodding my head up and down because I was SOOOO sleepy! I even slapped myself (lightly) LOL, but to no avail. Erkkk.. What's more, I was sitting in the front most row of the auditorium, where the lecturers could definitely detect and see my sleepy expressions. GAHHH...

Last night had been busy too. As I told you before, I'm going to become the MC for Ladies' Cultural Night. I decided that I could not do it myself and asked Amiirah, the Band 6 girl, the greatest MC in UIA to help me out, by inviting her (kinda) to become my partner.
I was feeling a bit inferior because she's such a perfectionist. HAHAHA. She insisted on using beautiful, bombastic words in her sentences. Yeah, she's great! But never mind, I should learn from the experts. Now I know how did she manage to organize all those agendas in the master plan, her tone, etc. Learn from the experts without feeling shy or inferior! :D So last night we had a rehearsal and we're going to complete the MC text and have another rehearsal this afternoon. Her English is powerful (duh!) while mine is... >___<

At night I'm planning on studying Pharmacology (Quiz next week! O__o) and carefully ironing my clothes for Ladies' Night. Teehee..
Tomorrow morning till afternoon, go to Pantai Balok for Pharmily Day! (Kulliyyah of Pharmacy Family Day) and went back, then get ready for Ladies' Cultural Night on the same day/night. Errkk...Tomorrow's going to be a really BUSSSYYYY day!

Then Sunday, read Pharmacology, rest (sleep! main agenda) and complete the Pharmaceutical Analysis report.

And next week's gonna be busy busy busy with THREE lab practicals.

That's all from me. This is the reality of the Life of a Pharmacy Student of IIUM.

This is Sarah reporting from duty. Cheerio!

P.S. I recently discovered that I enjoyed reading e-Books (the ones I've downloaded at home) on my laptop while eating. Multitasking! :P
P.S.S. (betul ke?) I kind of misss....ARASHI. +___+

Killing TIME!!!!

Of course, time couldn't be killed. It's time who killed us.

Oh, before I forgot.
Assalamualaikum and hello to all.

Right now, I'm trying me best to devour and swallow the whole lots of Medical Biochemistry notes in preparation for the quiz this Thursday. Before you went off thinking what a big procrastinator I am, allow me to correct you. I've finished studying the subject before, during the weekend. Last week, my lecturer said that the quiz will cover from Amino Acids to Bioenergetics. She had just finished the 'Vitamins' chapter this noon. Then I asked for her confirmation 'The quiz will include up till Bioenergetics, right?' then she said 'The quiz will include Vitamins' GAHHHHHHHHHH

Again, I will be burning the midnight oil, just like what I did for the past few days. :/

My laptop wire stuffs/cable had gone all haywire, hanky panky, ipsy dipsy, tinky winky dipsi lala po. adavra kedavra, finite incantatum, hocus pocus, sectusempra, alohomora,  wingardium leviosa, lumos, expectum patronum (pergghhh, berapa banyak spells from Harry Potter nak include daaa- I know more than those that were mentioned :P) In other words, ROSAK! AGAIN!!! And so I'm blogging using my roommate's computer cable and then I'll have to sacrifice my afternoon nap (perangai buruk) because I need to jot down the Biochem notes from the powerpoint slides and study them all by tonight!

Merely expressing my dissatisfaction, just in case you thought I was complaining.

Sorry to those who are reading this. Sorry to my blog followers and readers. I couldn't really write something worth reading at the moment. xD

Study Plan.

Today: Biochemistry MUST COMPLETE!
Tomorrow: Pharmaceutical Microbiology (In case lecturer gonna give us POP quiz this week)
Wednesday: Biochem and Microbs again.
Thursday: Pharmaceutical Analysis or Microbs (MAIN PRIORITY!)

Expected quizzes next week: Pharmaceutical Analysis, Organic Chemistry, Pharmacology (not sure coz we might have tutorial first), Microbiology (see first whether we have Microbs quiz this week).

HURRAY!!!!

It's been almost 5 weeks that I haven't been home, haven't seen my parents nor my siblings' faces.

Perasan duduk oversea. :P

I saw a cat with green glowing eyes at 12.00 a.m

Assalamualaikum and hello to all :)

So, yesterday had been a rather productive day. Class at 8 till 1, had Organic Chemistry quiz, went back to room, had lunch + watching Princess and the Frog, hand washed clothes, then washing machine-d the clothes, hung the clothes dry, bought dinner then get ready for meeting at night.

When I was in class, I received a message from the PIC of Muslim Scholar programme of CAMPRO (Campus Dakwah Programme). He invited me to become the MC for the programme this Sunday. Then I said, okay, why not? It is rather fulfilling to do that rather than curling on my bed until 10 a.m (biasalah, orang bujang :P). And thus, I was required to go for the meeting at 8.00 p.m. Then postponed to 9.30 a.m.  And then I received a message from Kak Nisah, requiring me to go for the Ladies Night meeting at KOM (I'm going to be the MC for Ladies Night too). Arghh.. KOM JAUHH!!!  I slept for about 15 minutes only (after Isyak) then I woke up, got ready and the PIC sent a message (Meeting dibuat selepas Kuliah di KOM habis). Grrr.

Then I decided to go to KOM for the Ladies' Night meeting first. I thought the Kuliah Maghrib would end up at 10 or something. And so I walked ALONE from Mahallah Maimunah to Kulliyyah of Medicine, passing through the Principal's 'reputedly haunted' bungalow surrounded by the trees and dense, monkeys-infested jungle. I was a bit scared (No, actually I told myself to be scared. I was a drama queen so I would express anything dramatically). It was quite dark. Then I recited 'Ayat Qursi' out loud. I'm sure if there were any human beings present nearby, they would have laughed at me.

I had my umbrella as a weapon and I clutched it tight. And so I walked for hundreds of kilometers to KOM and whaddaheck, so many guys there! The kuliah is over! Then I walked into the IIUM Mosque and began the meeting with Kak Nisah and the rest of the Ladies' Night committees.

And walla! The PIC for Muslim Scholar called me after 5 minutes reaching in KOM, asking me to go to their meeting NOW in CF Brother. And so I have to walked again by myself for hundreds of kilometres back from KOM to the Mahallah. And as I reached there, panting, the PM introduced me 'This is our MC' and everyone nodded and smiled.

I studied the Master Plan of the event and thus I have to make my own MC text. Then,it was over. And so, I have to return back to KOM, walking again for hundreds of kilometres there and went on with the meeting for Ladies' Cultural Night. I'm required to make my own text too. But it's more like an impromptu. Rather than to boringly follow the text just like a normal MC in a formal event would do, my job is more like a host, so I must present a jovial disposition instead of being stiff. Oh yeah.

Then, the meeting ended at about 12.00 a.m Went back to Mahallah (walking hundreds of kilometers again) and I saw an orange cat (GARFIELD) with green glowing eyes. It was not visible at first. I thought I was hallucinating or something. HAHA. But then, it glowed TWICE. GREEN! I reached into my room, switched on the laptop(LOL) and then sleep at about 1.00 a.m

In summary, I will become the MC for two events
-Muslim Scholar Programme
-Ladies' Night

I had a bad experience last semester where I literally screwed up a national event, in front of hundreds of audiences. Why is that so? I couldn't focus due to the high fever I suddenly contracted. I couldn't even stand on the stage (due to fever). Never mind, Allah is great. I believe everything that happened has its own blessings and benefits. The guy from CAMPRO said that someone from Kulliyyah of Pharmacy gave him a list of names of those who are qualified to become MC and he had chosen me to become one. I never thought that I was included in the 'List of MC names' before.

I will pray for Allah's guidance and I hope that everything will go smoothly (My emcee-ing, especially) and I would want to show my truest capability and to banish the defeat I encountered last semester forever! (I'm such a drama queen, I know). The best thing of becoming an MC is, you're gonna get certificates! I wish they would write 'Master/Mistress of Ceremony or M.C' instead of committee of bla bla bla. Never mind, I'm going to tell Anith to do that! It will be great for my portfolio. LOL.

Seriously, you're still reading this? I'm amazed! Then you are truly one great and attentive reader! :)

I'm hungry. I need to buy lunch now. Bye!

Alkisah

Okay, semalam tetiba rajin nak kemas bilik. Meja pun dialihkan sebab nak sapu kat belakang meja.

Maka tangan pun meraba-raba dahi, takut berdarah. Okay fine. Tak berdarah.

Lepas 1 minit macam tu, tengok cermin pulak. Whoa, benjol besar giler kat dahi. Wakakakaka.

First time tengok benjol tu.

Maka kesan benjol pun kurang tapi masih sakit. Esok pergi kelas takde orang perasan sebab pakai tudung. HAHAHAHA.

Thank you, my dear roommate, Nurul Hazimah Abdul Aziz :)

Direct/Indirect Translation Episode 1: Jenny

Jenny, lagu yang ditulis oleh Klik 5 Itu kepada awek mereka nya (salah sorang) yang tiba-tiba emo semacam.

Jenny oleh Klik 5 Itu

Dia panggil aku bayi
Lepas tu tak nak kol aku
Ckp dia sayang aku
Pastu tak pedulikan aku plak
(Oh Jenny, apa masalah ko?)

Dia dok jauh-jauh
Duduk atas pagar plak tu
Bina ketahanan
Dan pertahanan
(Jenny, apa masalah ko?)
Ko tinggalkan aku tergantung kat tali
Setiap kali ko emo

Korus:
Mula-mula ko ckp tak nak
Lepas tu nak pulak
Asyik tinggalkan aku kat tali tu
Macam mana aku nk bergerak
atau berdiri tegak
Jenny, lutut aku sakit
Ia membunuh aku, membunuh aku

Perlukan ruang sendiri konon
Tetiba nak main game cabaran minda pulak
Lepas tu last2 ada kat tempat aku
Dia ckp dia dh berubah
(Jenny, apa masalah ko?)

Aku cuba nak baca di antara garisan
sampai minda aku terkeluar dari otak (aku lemah bab2 IQ ni)

(korus)

(oh, oh,oh)
Ia memmbunuh aku
(oh,oh,oh)
Ia membunuh aku
Jenny

Ia membunuh aku
APA MASALAH KAU JENNY!!!

Lama-kelamaan, si pakwe pun break-up dengan Jenny. THE END.

Goodbye 2010!

Okay, the time now is 11.44 p.m

I must write this last post for the year 2010 before the 'cheap internet' is automatically disconnected. -____-

So, my blog is 3 years old now! I started this blog in December 2007. Ah, rindu zaman dulu-dulu. :'(

I hope that I will become a better person in 2011. That's my resolution.

Bye!

I will be a MAN and I'm deeply ashamed of myself.

By now you should know that I'm a poetry buff.

First part: I'll be a MAN :P

If by Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

2nd Part: I'm deeply ashamed with myself :(

PMR a test of courage, too

2010/12/27
By Adie Suri Zulkefli (New Straits Times)

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Fifty-year-old Samsudin Rejab is no superhero. He is an ordinary man who works as a security guard at the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry's office at the Seberang Perai Tengah district office.
But there is something in Samsudin, or Pak Din as he is fondly known, that might inspire others, particularly the younger generation.

For someone his age, it took a great deal of courage to be in a hall packed with 15-year-old students sitting the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examination this year.

"It was an awkward situation. The students were watching me, wondering what an old man like me was doing among them at the PMR examination," Samsudin told the New Straits Times at his home in Taman Ara Indah, Permatang Pasir here yesterday.
Samsudin was one of 439,456 candidates who received their PMR results on Thursday. He had taken the examination at SMK Sama Gagah here as an independent candidate.

Although he did not pass with flying colours, obtaining 1C, 3Ds and 4Es, Samsudin's effort to improve his life demands huge admiration.

He took the PMR examination to meet a requirement for career advancement.

While applying online for a job upgrade -- from the post of security guard with Grade KP11 to security assistant with Grade KP17 -- Samsudin was unable to meet an important requirement as he had lost his Sijil Rendah Pelajaran (SRP) certificate obtained in 1975.

"I had to take PMR to fulfil the academic qualification needed to apply for the post."

Nevertheless, he added, his decision was not merely for career advancement.
"I may not be a high achiever, but I want to inspire youngsters, especially school dropouts, so that they don't give up on their education.
"If an old man like me can study textbooks and sit examinations, they can do far better."
Five years ago, Samsudin sat the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination before repeating the paper a year later.

While others his age are looking forward to their retirement, Samsudin is still enthusiastic about academic achievement.

He plans to sit for the SPM again next year. Call him a dreamer, but it is Samsudin's ultimate wish to set foot in a university as a student.

Thanks for sharing this, Kak Timi. I'm even ashamed of myself for not keeping up to date with the current issues, for not reading newspapers for several weeks :P

My favourite love poem :)

Assalamualaikum and hello to all :)

Love at First Sight by Wislawa Szymborska

Both are convinced
that a sudden surge of emotion bound them together.
Beautiful is such a certainty,
but uncertainty is more beautiful.

Because they didn't know each other earlier, they suppose that
nothing was happening between them.
What of the streets, stairways and corridors
where they could have passed each other long ago?

I'd like to ask them
whether they remember-- perhaps in a revolving door
ever being face to face?
an "excuse me" in a crowd
or a voice "wrong number" in the receiver.
But I know their answer:
no, they don't remember.

They'd be greatly astonished
to learn that for a long time
chance had been playing with them.

Not yet wholly ready
to transform into fate for them
it approached them, then backed off,
stood in their way
and, suppressing a giggle,
jumped to the side.

There were signs, signals:
but what of it if they were illegible.
Perhaps three years ago,
or last Tuesday
did a certain leaflet fly
from shoulder to shoulder?
There was something lost and picked up.
Who knows but what it was a ball
in the bushes of childhood.

There were doorknobs and bells
on which earlier
touch piled on touch.
Bags beside each other in the luggage room.
Perhaps they had the same dream on a certain night,
suddenly erased after waking.

Every beginning
is but a continuation,
and the book of events
is never more than half open.

-translated by Walter Whipple

This. Is. Really. Sweet! :')  I wish I have this kind of thing going on. Yeah, right! (sarcastic tone).
Urm, let's see. Have I gotten any wrong number before? Have I muttered sorry to anyone without looking at him before?
Nope, I can't remember doing any of that. :P

Hahahaha. I do wonder what's wrong with me today. Too much stereochemistry, I guess. +_____+

Just for the sake of updating :P

Assalamualaikum and hello to all :)

Yes, this is me. Hello again! (tak boleh blah)

I'm 'supposed' to update this blog by the end of this week. But right now, it seems that the internet connection is quite 'conducive' for blog updating (LOL),  and therefore, I shall update the blog.

My 2nd week here in UIA Kuantan. My 2nd semester, yeah.
I love being in my compartment. :) Like I said before, the window of my compartment is facing the lush, green hill behind a.k.a hutan belantara berbukit bukau. It's the monsoon season now (musim tengkujuh, eh, betul ke?), and Kuantan is located in the eastern coast of Malaysia so everyday is a rainy day. And it's really cold. Like, seriously. I'm wearing a jacket as I typed this.

I'm currently imagining that I'm in Cameron Highlands, hahaha. Now that's a delightful and comforting thought, isn't it? :P

Last weekend, Hazie asked me out (LOL) to Gambang WaterPark together with her and some other friends. But my parents didn't allow me to go. I was a bit upset but oh well, we have to obey our parents' orders.  My mum said ' Kalau dengar cakap mak bapak selamat dunia akhirat'. :)
I went out to East Coast Mall to watch 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader' with Syidah instead.

I splurged about almost RM150 buying

1. Nodame Cantabile Live Action Drama ( I have one in hard disk, but I SO NEED the DVDs :P)
2. Nodame Cantabile Special Episodes
3. Nodame Cantabile Movie Set Complete (I and II)
4. Nodame Cantabile Anime set

:DD Don't tell my mum. Muahahahaha.

And I have 'successfully' finished reading Nodame Cantabile manga Chapter 1-23. Again, muahahahha *evil laughter*.

How's class? Lectures? So far, ALL my lecturers are foreigners

1. Pharmaceutical Microbiology : Dr Elamin (Sudan), Dr Khin Ma Ma (Myanmar)
2. Organic Chemistry : Dr. Qamar (India). He is charming and charismatic. I enjoyed his lectures. And thus, I'm starting to love Organic Chemistry. :)
3. Pharmaceutical Analysis: Dr. Mokhlesur (Pakistan, if I'm not mistaken). He's very generous when giving us marks and his quizzes are quite 'tolerable' and 'answerable' thus can give us more marks (if we study) yaay!
4. Biochemistry: Dr. May Khin Soe and Dr. Lwin (both from Myanmar). Dr. May is really nice. We haven't had any lectures with Dr. Lwin yet.
5. Islam: Knowledge and Civilization: Philosophical class which promotes us to think out of the box. Is there such thing as ghosts? HOHOHO

Pharmacology belum start lecture lagi sebab Dr. Razak dengan Dr. Wan Azizi baru balik dari Mekah.

Oh yeah, being a class rep equals to lots of works. That, plus having to tolerate with some of the classmates' +____+ behaviours. Let's leave that aside for a while. Hahaha.

Studying takes a lot of discipline. I was reading Audrey Niffenegger's 'Her Fearful Symmetry' just now. I mean, I was so engrossed with the novel that I was actually thinking of snuggling on my bed, reading it till it's finished (and maybe I'd end up sleeping). But no, I have to study Organic Chemistry for the quiz tomorrow so okay, I put the book aside and start studying. I mean, continue studying :P

I love Organic Chemistry and I don't want to make my lecturer (and myself, my mum) upset so I must try my best to score high marks for this subject.

And I'm alternating between writing my novel, reading 'Her Fearful Symmetry', reading 'Chronicles of Narnia 7 in 1', reading Jean Ure's 3 in 1, watching Nodame Cantabile anime, and studying. I did all these everyday. I hope this routine will continue till the end of the sem (especially the studying part). Haha. A bit of writing (expressing ideas and creativity), a bit of reading ( learning how to develop stories, learning sentence structures- thus helps in writing, cultivating imagination. Albert Einstein said that the true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination, take that, take that! :P),  a bit of entertainment (watching anime, of which I only watch when I'm eating and after studying- as a reward  give to myself for finally finished revising the entire chapter, haha) and of course, studying, which is my main priority.

Dr Qamar said 'Be sincere in learning, studying,'. That's what I'm doing now (or at least try to do). To be sincere in everything I do, to have faith in Allah and insya-Allah, with His Wills and Blessings, everything good will fall into place.

Well, that's all from me now. You might have this thought in your mind 'Ape ni budak ni esok quiz pun nak update blog. Ada hati nak dapat Dean's List' and I would say 'HAHAHAHAHAHAHA,'

Even the poor and the fools have the rights to dream. So can I. Hmmph!

Sayonara~~ and thanks for reading ^^

Becoming a Drug Dealer

Assalamualaikum and hello to all. :)

The agony is over. I've already checked my result for Semester 1 of Year 1 in Kulliyyah of Pharmacy. Alhamdulillah! Thank you Allah! :D

It's not that excellent, and it's not too bad either. I'm going to maintain my GPA around that range and I'll try my best to increase it for the next semester. ^^

Speaking of  it, I really hope that each coming semester will be better better and better, with CGPA that is higher, higher and higher.

The second semester will commence tomorrow and I must say, the subjects for the semester are tougher as compared to the first semester. *gulp*

ORGANIC CHEMISTRY  (4 credit hours)
PHARMACEUTICAL MICROBIOLOGY (4 credit hours)
MEDICAL BIOCHEMISTRY (3 credit hours)
FUNDAMENTALS OF PHARMACOLOGY (3 credit hours)
PHARMACEUTICAL ANALYSIS I (3 credit hours)
UNGS 2040K (3 credit hours)
STUDY CIRCLE 2 (0.5 credit hour)

Total: 20.5 credit hours! *faint* But I bet the kulliyyah will lower down the credit hours of one of the subjects above. We are not allowed to take more than 20 credit hours per semester.

Yeah, face it (this goes to me). Yeah, now you know it (this goes to you). Pharmacy students have the highest accumulation of credit hours and contact hours (per semester, per year, per graduation) out of all the courses offered in IIUM

Pharmacy is not a piece of cake *rolled eyes* It's a piece of raw, leathery, freshly slaughtered meat that you are forced to shove down your throat. *what kind of comparison is this?*

So, another 5 months to be spent in UIA Kuantan ( 16 weeks of lectures, 1 week, 2 weeks of revision period).

But along hardship, comes ease. Allah has promised that. :)

You know why?

The university knows that we had gone through a really difficult time during the 4 months period (Sakit fizikal, mental, emotional semua ada) and thus they do not allow us to take short semester and they insists that we should rest and take a really long vacation during the 2 months short semester period. Plus one month semester vacation after short semester, making it 3 months!

What, you don't understand. OKAYYY

2 months (short semester for other students from other courses) + 1 month (semester vacation after short semester) = 3 months of holidays for Pharmacy students.

Yeah, 3 months! AWESOME!!!

What makes it more AWESOME is that the government had decided to standardize the academic calendar for all universities in Malaysia. So, UIA is granting TWO more months of holidays to its (?) students!

3 months + 2 months (extra holiday due to standardization of holidays) = FIVE FREAKING MONTHS!!!

YESSS!!!!

What? Masih tak faham ke? Makan kismis banyak-banyak lain kali.

Senang-senang tengok ni la...

Bookers' Heaven

Assalamualaikum and hello to all :)
Bookers' Heaven. It is a term that I invented, referring to a some sort of heaven for the book lovers (bookers). I know that Bookers is the  WRONG word but it seems cool,  and Booker's Heaven seems appropriate for the title of a book, or in this case; a blog entry. So, there it goes, BOOKERS' HEAVEN. A heaven for those who love books. =)

We went to Chowrasta Market in Penang, yesterday. And I found discovered one of the best places on Earth...

BOOKERS' HEAVEN! The first floor of Chowrasta Market houses several bookstores that sell old, new, second-hand, used books!

New books at a price of RM20 each! The real price at MPH is about RM30+ CHEAPO, RIGHT????

New, fresh books wrapped in plastic at RM20 each! :)

A heaven for bookers of different ages and that includes teenagers and children

Customers with the Book Dealer

I could just run, dancing happily amidst the mountains of books just like an Oompa Loompa!

I wish I could just gobble up all these books just like Augustus Gloop and keeping them to myself, saying 'Precious, my precious!' just like Gollum.

Sweet Valley Twins for RM2 each~!! I kid you not!
I remember reading Sweet Valley when I was in primary school. Now, you couldn't find any Sweet Valley Twins books in the major bookstores such as MPH. I guess they have stopped the publication of this series. :(

Ancient bookcase filled with ancient books

So, if you're going to Penang, be sure to drop by at Chowrasta Market. Warning, the book dealers could be too eager and earnest sometimes. You need peace when browsing for books right?

The first book dealer asked 'What are you looking for?'
I said 'Oh, I'm just browsing,'
'Okay, continue browsing then,'

When I went to the second book store, the second book dealer asked
'What are you looking for?'
'Sweet Valley ada tak?'
and off he went to bring a stack of Sweet Valley books. Pergghhh.

Yeah, they are very helpful. It is almost impossible to find the books you want by yourself, of which they might be buried under the mounds of books and never be found forever *dramatic tone*.

Oklah, the book dealers are EXTREMELY NICE AND HELPFUL! You can even bargain with them!

It's not just fictions. You can buy reference books, religious books, comics (Archie's, etc), almost everything!

My mum said 'Next time, you can just buy your books here. No need to go to MPH,'

:)

P.S It's a good thing that Penang is situated just about 30-45 minutes of journey from Sungai Petani! (minus the never ending traffic jams, of course =___= )

P.P.S The ancient books reminded me of my ancient school library (Convent School, established 1951) :P
